DiFrancesco: No endorsement; McGreevey leads Schundler by 18 points in new poll

DiFrancesco: No endorsement, it's personal
Acting Governor Donald DiFrancesco said today that there would be no 11th hour endorsement of Republican Bret Schundler for Governor, saying that his differences with his former opponent were "personal." DiFrancesco made his comments during a taping of News 12's Campaign New Jersey with Laura Jones and Jim McQueeny that will air on Saturday at 11:00am, 3:00pm, and 10:30pm and on Sunday at 11:00am, 3:00pm, and 6:30pm. Also on the show: Democratic State Chairman Joe Roberts and Republican State Chairman Joe Kyrillos, Schundler campaign manager Bill Pascoe, and former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Michael Murphy. (11/02/01)

McGreevey leads Schundler by 18 points in new poll
Democrat Jim McGreevey leads Republican Bret Schundler by a 53%-35% margin in the race for Governor, according to a Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll released today. 12% of the voters remain undecided. In the race for the Assembly 41% say they’ll vote for the Democrat candidates and 36% say they’ll vote for Republicans. McGreevey has a solid base inside his party, with 85% of self-described Democrats making McGreevey their choice. Among self-described Republicans 17% say they will vote for McGreevey and 6% are undecided. Republican support for GOP state legislative candidates is actually higher than Republican support for the Republican’s ticket-leader: 81% of self-identified Republicans say they will vote for Republican candidates for the state’s legislature. Dr. Bruce Larson, professor of political science at Fairleigh Dickinson University, said “a fractured Republican party cannot win a state-wide race.”

Dems portray Schundler as Terrorist
From: Balcer.com

June of 2001, the national and local press reported a story of arms deal and money involving three Jersey City residents. At the arrest of one of the suspects, Mohammed Rajaa Malik told the press he was active in Bret Schundler's campaign. However, Schundler denies knowing him. Malik is a popular figure. He was member of the Zoning Board under Mayor Cucci and Mayor McCann Administrations. Former Mayor McCann described Malik as a "political hang-on." Malik's store was across the street (it is now being turned into housing). Malik even donated $1,000 to Schundler for governor. However, Schundler' press said, "For the record: Bret Schundler wouldn't be able to pick Mohammed Rajaa Malik out of a two-man lineup. These comments are amazing, After public meetings, I often went to Malik's store. We had many conversations. We talked about Schundler and his policies. Malik was articulated in his information. In fact, Malik had a photo hanging in his store of himself and Mayor Schundler. Malik supported Schundler and gave the donation because he was hoping that Governor Schundler would his restore lottery license. The state took away his machine some years ago. The most troubling aspect of this incident is Schundler holding on to Malik's money. Only after, I made a comment to the newspaper (Jersey Journal) stating that Schundler should return the money that Schundler returned Malik's donation. Where is his own sense of moral obligation?

I for one appreciate it, SDDC. FReepers willing to say what needs to be said and to hell with the hallelujah chorus are an essential and much needed resource here. Thanks

SDDC, COOP, and Exit149 are doing a terrific job. Thats what its all about. Next year the rest of the nation will have governor's races, but for now we owe our support to our friends in NJ and yes, Virgina. Keep up the good work guys. Lets not let the sit on their tails and do nothing crowd keep you from helping the good guys win.

Are the Republican state representatives in VA backing Early? Here in NJ the traitor Rinos in Trenton are Schundler's biggest problem.

Too bad. If Schundler had won, I fully expected he would have run for President some day. What a shame - first conservative since Kemp who seemingly was able to get significant minority support.

Enough of the b.s. talk that conservatives wreck the Republican party by not voting for liberal party nominees. Someone please demonstrate where that has happened one time. Happened here in Minnesota with Allen Quist, and I know it has happened other places.

I hope Schundler will be able to run for something else to keep his viability alive.

I hope you people did not get offended by this post. I posted that we are down 18 in NJ so that we can wake up, do something, and win the state.

You are trying to generate momentum with this thread? I question your coaching abilities. Here are your comments on Post #1:

Get Ready for it guys. We will lose New Jersey by a double digit margin in the final vote tally. We will lose Virginia by about 3 or 4 percentage points, and we will lose New York by a smaller margin than expected a week ago, from 5 to 8 percent. The Democrats will take all 4 elections.

Sounds pretty defeatist to me, SDDC.

I still believe that the Bush telemarketing capmaign underway in NJ, combined with high GOP(due to activism) and low Dem (due to complacency) turnout in NJ will enable Bret to have a good shot. Bloomberg is going to win NYC Mayor by 3-5%.

I don't care about LA and don't know anything about VA.

You probably mean well but either lead, follow or get out of the way at this point. The men are out in the pouring rain changing the tire as fast as they can and you can analyze this on Wednesday morning.

You have a point. I was really feeling upbeat about Schundler thinking he would pull an upset until I saw this. But I guess we have to be realistic and work that much harder over the next 3 days.

Thats a reason why one party government is bad, in my opinion. The NJ legislature is so one sided republican that it naturally splits into conservatives versus rinos. The smaller the majority the more likely they are to appreciate it and stick together. Witness the US House. Of course my theory falls when you plug in a shithead like John McCain.

Just cheering and praying from the sidelines for Bret!

I will be setting up websites (stopdemocrats.com) complete with a live chatroom, live tv feed from NJ, VA, NJ public tv, election-related links, radio links, and threads from FR on Tuesday. Does anyone think it's worth it?

If you could spend the same energy and get people to go to the polls Tuesday and vote for Bret Schundler I would sy DO THAT INSTEAD. If you can get anyone to chage their vote to Schundler that counts as +2.

If you are looking to hold a pity party instead by all means go ahead and devote the energy to your post-election communications fest. Just realize what you are choosing to expound energy on (Winning or Reporting)?

I guess we have to be realistic and work that much harder over the next 3 days.

Damn right you do, a lot of people all over this country have donated money to Schundler and want him to get the best shot.

Polls are not always accurate, 1) they cannot predict turnout or voter excitement and 2) they have built-in bias.

The ONLY poll that counts is on Tuesday and turnout is key. The Dems see big leads and they let up. Bush is telemarketing for Schundler and the Pubs vote heavy. And the world turns.

Do not give up, you and your fellow NJ freepers are needed NOW more than ever, friend. I'm sure that the defeatists mean well, but they are not doing anything positive to help NOW so ignore them. There will be time to discuss strategy with them in three days, now there is a job to get done. (not setting up a post-election gabfest)

I'm glad to see someone with common sense on this forum. Most people here are still daydreaming that Schundler and Earley will win. I say dream on. If the Republicans lose, you can thank George Dumboya Bush. The fact that he supported liberal Republican Donnie DiFrancisco in New Jersey and is supporting ultra-liberal Republican Richard Riordan in California proves that Bush is no conservative.

SDDC-
Did you ever dream that you would have the unabashed endorsement of FReeper 'Holden Magroin'- what a coup that is. You lie down with dogs, you end up with fleas.

Just for yucks--let's debate WWII next, anyone think the Yanks have a chance on D-Day invasions at Normandy?

Just goes to show that the NJ GOP is at least as stupid as the CA GOP. Donnie D is a spineless putz. Bush's failure to campaign for Schundler is the 2nd worst thing he's done as President...the 1st being not having the balls to insist on an aggressive capgains cut.

The local polls run by the colleges in the area (Marist, Quinnipiac, and Fairleigh Dickenson, are notoriously liberial in their reporting. ALL the polls had Whitman down by double digits when she won her first election vs Florio, same with Patacki when he beat Cuomo. I wouldn't place too much faith in polls. In NJ it will be a low turnout election and I believe that Schlundler's support is more motivated than McGreedy's, We'll see Tuesday. The Rats ads here in the NY market for Green and McGreevy have been very shrill, worst I've ever seen. I don't believe they'd go this negative if McGreedy and Green were a shoo in as the media portrays. The freepers in NJ will be out voting.

Regarding the bitterness by freepers towards the NJ Republicians. When a conservative is running in NJ the RINO's not only don't support them they activly try to undermine them. When economic times were good and Budgets surplus's were large, The Republicans who controlled the Senate House and Govenors house allowed spending to go wild and spend all the money. If spending had been held close to the rate of inflation we could have gotten rid of the income tax here. Whitman also vetoed Partial Birth Abortion laws and her judicial nominee's were when folks in the Red part of the country would regard as Socialist.

If McGreevy loses after the way he has been treated by the NJ party, Conservatives should sit out an election to let the RINO's see how they do without us. The rats in this state aren't much wors than 2/3rd of the Republicans.

Hey I am setting up to move my family out of NJ, this state makes me Puke. Donnie Di is a total jerk. He is finished in public life. I saw a commercial with him and his wife, NJ and you perfect together. I am getting out of here.
Bret will be the next senator of NJ, If he stop being a terrorist.. =Snick=

I have been stumping with everyone I know and meet for a vote. You cannot (I guess you can) believe how much of these lies people swallow... McGreevey waited until after the debates to start his last push of lies...How can you not see what a creep he is?

It would have been nice to pick up that New Jersey seat if Torch had resigned.

If we lose NJ, the Torch can resign and the DEM governor will replace him with some putzhead like Florio.

Yeah, I know, that is the reason I put would in my sentence - using the past tense.
