The writer brought up some points which are undeniably true if you read the writings of leading Southern political personalities, but in the end this is something people's great grandfather's fought for and I don't believe that your typical Southern soldier gave two d&mns about slavery (nor did Lee condone it). I wouldn't let my kid wear one of those uniforms, but I sure as hell wouldn't bother anyone else about doing it.

I know that the typical Northern soldier didn't give two d&mns either! I wish these people who write this drivel would take the time to read the letters and journals of the men who fought for both sides during the war. They'd be hard-pressed to find the topic of slavery discussed. Preservation of the Union was the main aim of the boys in blue, and independence from a tyrranical government was the goal of the boys in gray. If anybody had told them they were going to battle over slaves, there never would have been a war!

I wouldn't let my kid wear a Rosie O'Donnel costume, either, but if other parents let their kids dress up as ol' fathead thht would be their prerogative.
