To: Rodeo supporters and those opposed to radical animal rights activists
From: Cindy Schonholtz, PRCA Animal Welfare 101 Pro Rodeo Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80919
As most of you know, the Salt Lake Organizing Committee is working with the PRCA to produce a rodeo as a part of the Arts and Culture Festival during the Salt Lake Olympics next February. Utah animal rights groups are putting enormous pressure on Salt Lake Organizing Committee CEO Mitt Romney to cancel this event.
The rodeo community needs to embrace this event and contact Mr. Romney TODAY and let him know that there is tremendous support for this rodeo. Please do not allow the vocal few animal rights activists outnumber us with letters, this is a vital battle to keep rodeo thriving while supporting our friends at the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. Please let me know if you sent a letter by email me a copy or sending me a copy of the letter. More information can be found at PRCA's web site at www.prorodeo.com.We need to generate thousands of letters, please pass this along to other interested folks.
Please email, write, or fax Mr. Romney today - letters would be best but do what you have the resources to do:

Sample Letter:
Dear Mr. Romney:
Please accept my thanks to the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for including a rodeo as a part of the Arts and Culture Festival. The sport of rodeo is a wonderful way to share this nation's great western heritage with the millions of visitors to our country during the Olympics. I join the millions of rodeo fans who enjoy being a part of the great sport of rodeo as spectators, contestants and organizers in saluting the Salt Lake Organizing Committee and pledging my support of the Olympic Command Performance Rodeo to be held in Davis County.
Please do not allow a vocal minority of animal rights extremists to hamper the Salt Lake Organizing Committees ability to share the sport of rodeo as an important part of America's culture.
Sincerely,
The New Mexico contingent would like to include cockfighting and chicken pulling. That would get the PETAistas knickers in a knot.
"Now" I know why X42 was always visiting a state with only 3 electoral votes.
Extensive rules and regulations are a part of the PRCAs animal welfare program and are enforced by professional rodeo judges on-site at each PRCA sanctioned event.
A 2000 survey conducted at 57 PRCA rodeos indicated that the injury rate for animals was so low as to be statistically negligible.
Of 71,743 animal exposures, just 38 were injured, according to data compiled by on-site veterinarians. That translates to an injury rate of five-hundredths of 1 percent (0.00052, to be exact) or less than one animal in 2,000.
All of the veterinarians who took part in the survey reported that the animals were well cared for and the rodeo grounds were in good condition. Other surveys throughout the years have also shown that animal injury rates in professional rodeo are extremely low.
A complete listing of animal welfare rules can be found in the PRCA published Humane Facts booklet which can be obtained online.
PETA is wrong--again.
