I think it has to do with the fact that the Senate bill gives the Attorney General fairly stringent controls over the workers (can't strike, etc.) and because the Senate felt it was important to move quickly in a bipartisan fashion. Quite frankly, I think some Republicans are making too big a deal out of this. Whether they are federal employees or not, they'll still have the right to unionize, and the conditions under which they are hired and under which they work will probably not change their individual voting habits.

I think some Republicans are making too big a deal

The Feds gave us the INS, the INS gave a country full of 'funtamentalist Muslims' kooks.

The Feds gave us the Civil Aviation Autority(?), the CAA prevent pilots from carrying guns. No guns in the cockpit gave us 4 kamikazi airliners.

The Feds gave us Politically Correct Rules, the rules were the crew should accomodate and Islam (submit) to highjackers .

Need I go on? Yes, its a big deal! The Feds keep making things worst with all the grandingstanding at airports.

We are more negligent in dealing with internal 'terrorists and hate spewing mullahs and their congregations' than any middle east country including Iraq.

This country is not on the road to confidence given the partisan politics that has taken the country to ruin. Especially during the last 8 years and now with more of the same. Very big deal my friend.
