I've been up there several times and the view was just amazing. There are pictures of me and friends up there in the late eighties. And there's a photo of my wife on Liberty Island with the Manhattan skyline including the Twin Towers in the background, on my wall behind the computer. It's hard to believe that they're not there anymore.
Those towers need to be rebuilt, exactly as they were, beam by beam, window by window. To allow anything else to go up on that site would mean allowing the creatures to rob us of those amazing and wonderful buildings, forever.
Every time we would look at the NYC skyline, we would see "the missing WTC towers."
The guy who has the lease on the land wants to rebuild, but he plans to put up something else, perhaps four 50-story buildings. I think this is a grave mistake-- they would be looked upon forever as "the stumps that replaced the Twin Towers." And the terrorists will have won a victory, which is one too many.
