Good observation... hadn't thought about this even though I've flown over a lot of rail yards. Taking it to another level, we could look at the hundreds of thousands of truck containers stacked up in the vicinity in Newark, NJ harbor.
If the Feds have to hire 28,000 port security folks, the focus should be on smart guys looking into these issues, and not the airport screeners. If we were to eliminate carry on luggage, a large portion of airport security will be alleviated; some will be pushed to the luggage concerns. At least passengers will be rendered harmless.
