U.S. papers: FBI hunting suspected terrorists with Israeli passports
HA'ARETZ DAILY ^ | Thursday, November 01, 2001 Cheshvan 15, 5762 Israel Time: 07:45 (GMT+2) | Yossi Melman and Nathan Guttman

The FBI is conducting a manhunt for six men carrying Israeli passports who are suspected of plotting terror attacks in the United States - and who were released by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service after having been under arrest, according to the Knight-Ridder news service.

The six were arrested over the weekend in a state in the Midwest while traveling in two cars, and were found to have photographs and information about a Florida nuclear reactor and the Alaska pipeline, the news agency reported. There are three nuclear reactors in Florida. They also had "suspicious equipment," including box-cutter knives similar to those used by the hijackers on September 11, Knight-Ridder said.

But the six, who were decribed as having Israeli passports and a "Middle Eastern look," were released after INS officials decided that their passports and visas were valid. According to the Miami Herald, the INS released the men without consulting the FBI - or reporting the arrests. When FBI director Robert Mueller heard about the incident, he was "furious."

However, the newspaper also quoted the INS as calling the report that it had allowed the release of the six "unconfirmed." And a spokesman for the company operating the Alaskan pipeline, which carries some 17 percent of all the oil in the U.S., said he did not know of any threat to the pipe.

An Israeli embassy spokesman in Washington said he knew about the affair from the newspaper, but American authorities had made no formal contact with the embassy about the matter.

Another thread running now indicates the Canadian border patrol is on the lookout for these six men. Seems like someone could call them and let them know it was a hoax. We spend our effort looking for people that don't exist while giving out visas like day after candy.

Can you look at a "middle eastern looking" person and tell where they are from or what their religion is?

Yeah but this story came from Ha'aretz, an Israeli paper...how could it be disinformation or propaganda?

If you actually read the article you'll see that they took it directly from the now defunct Knight-Ridder wire.

Thanks for the comic-book site.
Great place to send the deluded who believe that our Muslim problems are the result of a few "extremists".
This is a religious war, not new and pretty well defined by this site.
Only the densest and most ignorant would fail to see it by simply reading between the lines.

Arabs use boxcutters for circumcision and clitoral mutilation. Perhapes those Arabs had teenagers at home. (They do it at the age of 13)

I have no idea of what the truth is concerning this story; however, as a rule, Knight-Ridder is a more reliable source than Reuters.

The Israeli source above quoted the Knight Ridder news service, since Knight Ridder newspapers were the only ones that actually published the full story. Their reporters apparently got it as rumors off the internet.

I was a journalist before I retired and I learned that some low-level person who works for a government agency can pick up a rumor off the internet, he can casually mention it to a reporter friend of his, and a careless reporter will sometimes report the rumor as coming from an “un-named government source”. I’ve seen this happen several times.

That Arab site reveals the average intelligence of these crazy people.

By the way, some of those same rumors are also on Michael Rivero’s website. Remember him? He used to spread his anti-American propaganda right here, and I fought him diligently for several months. He claims the Israelis and the CIA were behind the 911 bombings. I don’t think Rivero is an Arab. I think he is some kind of leftist or Marxist who will publish any lie to harm our government and our country. He’s currently supporting the Taliban on his website.

On another Arab website yesterday, there was a long story about how Israeli agents were flying the hijacked airplanes by remote control when they crashed them into the buildings. The funny thing was that the Arab who wrote the article said that Arabs weren’t “smart enough” to pull off the hijacking. He said only Israelis were “smart enough” to do it, so apparently some Arabs realize that the Israelis are smarter than Islamic Arabs.
