WASHINGTON — As the nation again stands on high alert, the FBI is searching for six men stopped by police in the Midwest last weekend but released — even though they possessed photographs and descriptions of a nuclear power plant in Florida and the Trans-Alaska pipeline, a senior law enforcement official said Tuesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration imposed new flight restrictions around nuclear plants nationwide Tuesday, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission advised the nation's 103 nuclear plants late Monday to fortify security.

The FAA temporarily banned all flights near New York's Yankee Stadium, where President Bush stood before a huge crowd at a World Series game Tuesday night and — wearing a New York City Fire Department jacket — tossed the ceremonial first pitch.

"It helps to keep the fabric of our country strong," said spokesman Ari Fleischer.

I haven't read all of the posts yet, but I have to respond to yours. I am in Fairbanks, and I can still see pictures of oil streaming out of the pipe after some drunk decided to use the pipe for target practice last month. It only took them what, three days to fix a half inch hole. Some 300,000 gallons of oil sprayed out. I have to say they don't have a really good track record here.

Then there is our govenor, who actually added another security check point this week along the pipeline in response to a request from the FBI. You and I both know that the pipe is easily accessable from the highway between our fair cities. It is an impossibility to protect it.

If someone does decide to take the pipe, it will probably be done at several locations, in fact segmenting the pipe. If that is done, the various pump stations will cut the flow as needed. The only question is if there is enough pipe available to repair what ever damage is done.

What question were you trying to pose? Maybe you just didn't think it through far enough or, like me, your fingers got ahead of your brain. Happens all the time. :)

Yeah, it's obviously one or both of those things, but I'm just gonna give up on this particular question since I tried to pose it two or three different ways and still didn't effectively communicate it. I'm normally pretty good with the written word but this dialog obviously needs to fade away. :)

Bogus story. If a law enforement officer saw this type of material, he would have had the guys lay in the ditch until additonal squad cars arrived and then had a warrant to search the vehicle. The cops are not this dumb. This story is bogus.
