WASHINGTON — As the nation again stands on high alert, the FBI is searching for six men stopped by police in the Midwest last weekend but released — even though they possessed photographs and descriptions of a nuclear power plant in Florida and the Trans-Alaska pipeline, a senior law enforcement official said Tuesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration imposed new flight restrictions around nuclear plants nationwide Tuesday, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission advised the nation's 103 nuclear plants late Monday to fortify security.

The FAA temporarily banned all flights near New York's Yankee Stadium, where President Bush stood before a huge crowd at a World Series game Tuesday night and — wearing a New York City Fire Department jacket — tossed the ceremonial first pitch.

"It helps to keep the fabric of our country strong," said spokesman Ari Fleischer.

McVeigh stopped and asked for direction in OKC that dreadful morning. Strange, Americans are so helpful and yet so gullible, yet that is what and why everyone wants to come to America.

Before 9-11, each one of us would be more that happy to help anyone, anywhere. Not so anymore, I would not give the time of day to any mid eastener and will watch them like a hawk. I will not shop their stores, buy their gasoline, sleep in one of their nasty (as in only gets cleaned after guest #10 has left),flea bitten motels/hotels.

They don't like profiling, though. Watch their every move. We need to "Head em up, and move em out" and quick.

Strange note...These terrorists always seem to work in groups of six. I keep seeing that number. Is this correct????

how confident do you feel that the law enforcement community in your area is realistically capable of protecting you and yours?

Not one iota. Our police chief is on paid leave of absence due to 'another' staff complaint of discrimination. I think this last one was, "my seniority rights were violated."

"I swear I will never make fun of the idiocy of law enforcement officers in other nations. This is starting to sound like that scene in "Airplane" where the group of hijackers with guns and rocket launchers is allowed on the plane without any questions but the security guards rough up a little old lady when she sets off the metal detector."

"Just a question to ponder: to each person reading this thread, how confident do you feel that the law enforcement community in your area is realistically capable of protecting you and yours? What about the Federal government?"

That sounds just like the police we have around here and I have no confidence in them. They won't be able to protect us because they aren't smart enough to figure out what's going on and they aren't really brave enough...they'd end up running in terror and leaving everyone to take care of themselves or due to lack of intelligence and because of ignorance they'd do something to make the situation worse and/or give out wrong info that will get many people killed or injured, in my opinion.

"This is AT LEAST the third incidence that has been reported since 9-11 of folks getting stopped, released, and then law enforcement saying "Oops, we should have hung on to those guys". And we are on "heightened alert status"...what's WRONG with these guys?"

Because they were dumbed down in our socialistic public school system and now employers are stuck with hiring the products of our socialistic public school system, graduates whom are probably average to cream of the crop in said dumbed down system?

How confident? Well, with all of the police state mechanisms in place prior to 9/11 (of which there were many), how protected were we? Did they help one single bit? What was the one thing that kept the Penn flight from destroying the White House? Was it government, or was it brave individuals acting on their own, without waiting for "protection" from their government?

Each individual's protection is that individual's responsibility. The government is just as incompetent as it was prior to 9/11. Remember that everybody? When most of us here were making daily posts scoffing how incompetent this that or the other agency was? What has changed since then, other than the atmosphere of fear? Sure, most people are concerned about this, but truth be told, the one job that the Govt. is *supposed* to do is being terribly neglected. Meanwhile, we get the Patriot Act and other such worthless toilet paper legislation, we get the Office of Homeland Defense straight from a Nazi Germany horror file, as if we are the criminals or something.

You want security? Buy a firearm, get proper training in its use, and carry it concealed, laws to the contrary be d@mned. Buy decent ceramic filter water filters and make sure your stock of non perishable food is up to date. Insure that you have an alternative light and heat source. Not "survivalism" in the sense of wackmobile fatigue wearing 50 year olds, but rather good preparations for a threat that has been publicly made and carried out in portion by people meaning to destroy our nation, our lives, our children, our Constitution.

Or would you rather line up behind the scarce "relief" trucks that *might* show up in the event of a WMD attack? You're much more trusting than I am if that is the case. But then hey, what do I know, right?

Rest assured that if these six people were "EEEEEEEEVIL" white heterosexual males, especially if they were of a white separatist or a right-libertarian bent, their ethnicity and their photographs would have recevied the widest dissemenation possible.

Right after the attack, very confidant. Before the attack , zip, nada, zilch.

Hate to pop your bubble, friend, but we have always been "on our own". You haven't seen a cop materialize from a phone, gun drawn, after calling 911 have you?

Never mind. I give up trying to pose my question.
