I hope everyone just got a chance to see President Bush just now at the World Series. The whole crowd was chanting "USA" and giving him a standing ovation. He threw a perfect strike, and he was absolutely magical.

Good idea. I tried to compartmentalize like x-42. Thanks to everyone who has assisted me with this ramparts query. Go Dubya. And then for a Threepeat, Go Jeb.

Oh come on. It was a logical question from someone who doesn't watch baseball and didn't know the Yankees have a trained bald eagle. A Bald Eagle threw me. A bald eagle I would have guessed what it meant.

Oh I love to watch Jennings.
I have a distinct character flaw that causes me to fully enjoy watching people who are burning with envy, jealousy and bitterness.
Needless to say, that means I watch:
Rosie
Jon Bon Jovi
Alec Baldwin
Susan Sarandon
The entire Today show program
Bob Schiefer
Dan Rather
Tom Brokaw
Ex-girlfriends...so on and so forth....

Was that Free Republic's eagle's cousin who bit Klintoon?

Eagles have been used in falconry, along with falcons, of course, for hundreds of years. It used to be that only the king could use an eagle. (A golden eagle, usually.) In this case it was the North American bald eagle 'Challenger,' trained by a falconer (the guy who actually rescued it and nursed it back to health) to land on a very thick and heavy glove. (A little quail meat or fish helps get him in the mood.) Challenger had been injured in the wild and isn't quite fit to be released- though he flies well enough across the baseball field.

I grew up in a town in Mississippi that had, at that time, basic flight training. I lived everyday with military jets flying over...I didn't know that everyone didn't have them! I met hubby when he was going through basic.
"...even have a Yankee child, & some days we let him out of the closet..."
LOLOLOL I know what you mean! I have one Kalifornia daughter, one Oregonian son-in-law, and 3 Oregonian grandchildren! Not a Southern accent in the bunch! (When we visit down South, duct tape on their little mouths works for me...heheh) Even though our daughter was born in Kalifornia, she was primarily raised in North Carolina. So, no one can say we didn't try to raise her right! ;o) BTW, hubby graduated from Annandale HS and Va. Tech.

LOL ... you are funny.
How 'bout that the flag was still there after the horrendous fight, and the "broad stripes and bright stars .... were so gallantly streaming" .. as we were watching over the ramparts (which are fortifying embankments)??
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
Just a thought. How stirring and emotional it was to hear it sung by that beautiful Irish tenor voice tonight and see the eagle, the jets, our beloved Prez throw a perfect pitch. Memorable night!! Please keep our brave military and our wonderful President in your daily prayers.

Somebody earlier posted some info on the eagle that flew into Yankee Stadium tonight after the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, including that the eagle's name was "Challenger." I said, hmm, that sounds familiar - and sure enough... ;-)
