Abdullah Al-Alarian, onetime intern for congressman David Bonior, is the son of University of South Florida computer professor Sami Al-Alarian who has been on O'Reilly and Dateline (and other shows?) recently and who is believed to be knee deep in terrorist activity.

Uncle Mazen Al-Najjar was jailed for being in this country on an expired visa in 1997 and was also believed to be terrorist-connected.  As the article shows, he was let out of jail by Janet Reno and "a panel of judges."

Does anybody know if Al-Najjar was ever deported?

I live in Tampa and attended USF. Locally, this story is somewhat suppressed. AlNajjar has disappeared off the radar screen lately. We have been told nothing about him.

The story has been Sami AlArian. He was suspended without pay for his own protection following death threats. (BARF!) The Hamas cell that he runs down here hasn't made the news either. I wonder when the homeland defense office is going to start worrying about this? Every redneck with a shotgun knows about it, so I woould think the FBI does....

Who the H''l is this Ilarian?

I am being denied access to the White House every single day. I want MY apology from W.

Last time I was in D.C. I was NOT allowed in the WH and I had to spend 3+ hrs in line before I could enter the Capitol building.

Ilarian should go take a trip to Mecca. All Muslims are welcome there. And, as his religion of peace demands, no Christians or Jews. Or women.

My vote goes to the uniformed Secret Service Man.

I watched the interview and I wouldn't trust Al-Arian or his kid..Rather than the White House "attempt better interaction with the Muslim community", I think the Muslim community should work for better Interaction with the American People.

They should try to get their Muslim Brothers to stop KILLING INNOCENT AMERICANS in a "peaceful way".

Remember The World Trade Center.

These people show "rightous indignation when their community supplies the terrorists.!!! DUHHHHHHHHHH!

There's fundamentalist Islam, which kills people. Then there's fundamentalist political correctness, which gets people killed...

According to Dateline (on NBC) Sunday night, the guy is still teaching classes in a FL university. The show aired an older interview with him, plus showed some footage of the man inciting terror amongst American Muslim citizens. Why is this man allowed to continue living in this country?

No apology necessary. The Secret Service was doing their job. One wonders why a cat like this was ever allowed that close to the President in the first place.

Let's see ... his Dad is believed to be knee deep in terror and his uncle is known for the same.

Sorry ... security risk way too high for any proximity to the Pres. IMHO.

Is there anyway to get the jihad video clip in a format other than real audio? I won't allow real audio on the system here.

I wish somebody would find a cure to this near fatal pro-islam PC bullsh*t that the President seems to be infected with. He needs at least a double dose.

I'm a little worried about Dubya.

He may not have the stones for the job.

From the sounds of it, he shouldn't have been thrown out of the White House; he should have been taken out back and shot in the head. So yes, an apology is in order.

Why do these people rate a personal meeting with our president? I would like to meet personally with him too. It is not likely, however, that that will happen. I think the secret service did the right thing. Mr. Bush needs to send someone to meet with them. They are potential enemies!

In light of 9/11 this makes the FBI look VERY smart and the president look like a politician

I wonder if he has apologized to the FBI agents..He should do it on TV!

The council had sent Bush a letter after the incident asking him to meet personally with Muslim leaders and appoint a special White House liaison to the Muslim-American community in order to ``dispel impressions within the Muslim community that there's some kind of exclusion from his policy-making circles,'' Hooper said.

I should HOPE they're being excluded from EVERY decision loop. What do they want, a Cabinet position?

This article is dated June 29, 2001--is that the date this incident happened? I thought this happened after 9-11.

February 22, 1999.....Democratic House Whip Rep. David Bonior (D-MI) visited Mazen Al-Najjar in jail, Rep. Bonior is the first Congressman to visit Mazen. Rep. Bonior said he will ask Janet Reno to do away with the use of "Secret Evidence", he also promised to hand deliver a letter to President Clinton from Yara, Mazen Al-Najjar's ten year old daughter, calling for the release of her father. March 4, 1999....Rep. Bonior met with President Clinton and not only brought up criticism of the 1996 Anti-Terrorism Law, but also hand delivered the letter from Yara. He also added he will work with others in Congress to introduce legislation to bar the use of "Secret Evidence." (This update from Mazen's Family & the AMC (American Muslim Council)

Al-Najjar and his brother-in-law Sami Al-Arian were associated with the World and Islam Studies Enterprise, a think tank affiliated with the University of South Florida, and the Islamic Committee for Palestine, a group with a stated mission of fostering better understanding of Muslim issues.

Ramadan Abdullah Shallah, who worked at the Tampa think tank, now runs the Islamic Jihad militant group from Damascus, Syria.

The U.S. government maintained that the Florida organizations fronted for the Islamic Jihad, which has claimed responsibility for bombings aimed at Israeli civilians in the Middle East.

Al-Najjar, who was raised in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, has been in the United States since 1981, his student visa long expired.

Wednesday's session in Bradenton, where Al-Najjar is jailed, opened with a debate over the admission of videotapes. The tapes depict five political conferences held from 1988 through 1992 and were seized by FBI and INS agents in a 1995 search.

The government introduced a 13-minute, 26-second excerpt culled from more than 1,500 hours on the tapes. INS attorney Daniel Vara said it would show Al-Najjar participating at conferences that raised funds for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and advocated the violent overthrow of Israel.

When the videotape was played, Al-Najjar appeared in a single, 20-second segment, making an introduction of a conference speaker.

Two portions were of events Al-Najjar did not attend, said Cole, his attorney.

Nowhere was there evidence of fundraising by Al-Najjar.

The government alleges a political think tank, known as WISE, and an organization called the Islamic Committee for Palestine, both founded by Sami Al-Arian, were fronts for terrorists. Al-Najjar worked for WISE, and attended ICP conferences. But it is Al-Arian who was the political activist and the person many believe is the government's target.

Cole noted that Al-Arian's name appears 44 times in the affidavit for the search warrants. Al-Najjar's does not appear at all.

Neither Al-Najjar nor Al-Arian, a tenured computer engineering professor at USF, has been charged with a crime.

WHY ARE WE APOLOGIZING? WHY IS THIS GROUP ACTING INDIGNANT?!?.... Mistakes happen! Whoever this group is, should know that in these times erring on the side of caution is the only option.

If we don't get a war mentality in this country soon, we are not going to win.
