Huge explosion hits front lines north of Kabul

JABAL SARAJ, Afghanistan (AP) A huge explosion hit the Bagram front lines about 25 miles north of Kabul on Tuesday, sending up a mushroom cloud that billowed at least 1,000 feet into the air.

The origin of the explosion was not immediately clear, since there were no airplanes immediately overhead. However, U.S. planes had roared in the skies over the front lines north of the capital throughout the morning and early afternoon Tuesday.

It was also not clear what positions had been hit by the blast and how extensive the damage was.

Fuel Air Explosion. Often called a "daisy cutter." Propane bomb. Devastating blast.

I thought the daisy cutter was the 15,000 lb bombs we dropped in Vietnam once in a while, to create landing zones.

Actually, if you look at a recent addition of the Blaster's Handbook, or look at a US Airforce ordinance list, you will see that Fuel Air Devices are listed as Incendiary Devices and NOT explosives.

The difference between an explosive and a high explosive is a combination of detonation speed and yield. So please refrain from getting an attitude with me.

I've spoken to a very authoriative source about the cave situation. He says just have the demolition guys methodically seal all the cave entrances. It could take months, it could take years, but it will do the job. And hey, no political blowback, because "we're only sealing the entrances...that's all!"

they used the big iron bomb,12,000 lbs bomb,i do not know if i should say much but is drop from the cargo bay of a C-130, is the same bomb used in vietnam to clear a hill for landing of helos,last time it was used was in iraq to try to clear the minefield,the brits commandos reported " the bloody yanks drop the big one" thinking it was a nuke,yes it will create a mushroom,
