Eeek! My daughter is at IU in Bloomington. She hasn't mentioned anything; but she is in one of the dorms that house mostly music students -- so, probably not a lot of Arab males playing classical music or jazz. (They had a tornado alert last week and she didn't even notice the siren because she was in one of the practice rooms, which are soundproofed.)

Laptop computers were set aside and not put through the scanners, and I saw a couple go past the inspectors without their taking a look

They are scanned now seperately.

I forgot to take mine out of the case the last time I flew, and they made me remove it and send it through by itself, along with my bag again.

I also was patted down (separate incident) just before I boarded the plane; I believe it was just random.

The man successfully passed through the airport security gates. However, during a random check at the gate by security officials, a box cutter was found in his computer case, police said.

It is very telling that the networks have ignored this incident from yesterday, especially when the article in the Pittsburg paper doesn't give any indication that it may have been an explainable mistake.

This means that middle easterners misbehaving at airports in a sinister manner is as marketable as antrax in-fighting that could implicate politicians in some shortcoming.

Actually, United's system creates a list of randomly selected passengers to be searched before boarding the plane. Well, the last 2 times I flew they did, but not this morning... Not sure why they didn't since OHare was the least busy I've seen it since ever.

A co-worker of mine went thru security at Philly airport a couple of weeks ago. Then, waiting to board she noticed she had 5 rounds of .38 special hollowpoints in her carryon, which nobody had noticed

We have to at least deport the "college students" who are not working their own way through college, it's obvious certain groups with agendas are providing the funds. Funny how many Arab "students" are well into their 30's and only taking undergraduate courses. At some point, you'd think they'd have to be out earning a living.

Yes, they all make me suspicious. And people who work on campus all seem to go out of their way to assume these foreign students are innocent---as big, or bigger, a mistake than presuming them guilty, in my opinion, given the situation we're in, and the way the Sept. 11 monsters "blended in" with their communities. Very frustrating...

I think what will happen is people will accept a lot of loss of freedom for a while, the killings will go on anyhow, there's no way that strict vigilance can be maintained. After a few thousand more Americans are killed, or maybe a couple of big celebrities are, people will wake up and realize the enemy needs to be recognized for what it is.
