I'm not exactly sure when this was written, but it certainly has some application to todays world. If anybody knows the original date of this article, please post it.

As for me, its time to go downstairs and work out!

And a shameless self-bump. BTW, how does one go about getting on the "bang-list"? I generally get to read about 1/4 of the gun-related articles on FR.

People might enjoy knowing that the "Hold! Enough!" of Cooper's title comes from the final scene of Macbeth. In his final, fatal fight with Macduff, Macbeth cries out:

"Lay on, Macduff, And damn'd be him that first cries, 'Hold, enough!'"

The only honorable response to violence is counter-violence.

Or, as we used to say in the Corps; "The best defense is to counter-attack three times a day."

Great article. Men are charged with maintaining justice in our communities. When the order of a community is broken, the correct response is outrage. This should be maintained until the perps are vanquished.

If there is one person with a spine and common sense left in the US political world would he please stand up. Maybe Rumsfeld. The King of Jordan had it right. If Muslim terrorists disturb your peace, you greece their asses in a hury and without mercy. Israel would like to do this, but we put pressure on them to back off. Our behavior is disgraceful. HONOR AND FREEDOM.

Complete and total agreement.

America will win because America is good.

Yes, there are many things wrong with our nation but in the whole we are still good.

Aw, shucks. Even a blind pig will come across an acorn now and then.

Now it's time to learn to fight. Get out to the range and take part in an IDPA and a Highpower rifle match. Get away from the couch and the computer. Lose the weight and get out there. Get a CCW and practice.

One more thing. We have less to fear from terrorists than the crack houses and the criminals that are on our streets. A friend told me that he knew that one of his relatives was buying drugs at a house in the neighborhood. He had no intention of doing anything about it. The least he could have done was call the cops and demand action rather than a feeble excuse that they were working on it.

What do thoes NewYorkers say?

Oh yeah;

From your mouth to the Good Lord's ears!

I have been back to the range. Results were not as bad as I feared but more practice is indicated.

You actually did better than I did. In the first stage of a IDPA classification match yesterday, I had to single load my carry 1911. After the stage, I found out that the barrel link broke. I cannibalized from another one that I had brought and finished the match.

At least no one was shooting back.

Funny you should mention learning to fight. I just finished my CCW class and will be scheduling an appointment to get the permit tomorrow. I was visiting the range regularly prior to moving 6 months ago, but haven't been shooting since I got here. I guess I had my priorities rearranged trying to get this house set up the way I want.

As far as the physical part of things, I have started to work out again, after about 7 or 8 months off (once again, that big move has kept me pretty busy). I'm not in that bad of shape, really, except that I need to work on my breathing stamina. I'm not ready for any 5K runs, that's for sure.

I am going to take your advice and get into some training and maybe a rifle match or two. I have only done one match and that was several years ago. It was fun and I scored right in the middle of the group. Not bad for a newbie with an old gun. :^)
