"I’ve been conservative for as long as I can remember. For as long as I can remember I have been gay and queer. And yes I am a fag, not a faggot, but a fag."

A few definitions follow. All but the first and my comments within parentheses are straight from a dictionary.

"Conservative": pro morality, the Constitution, limited government, right-to-life, and myriad other positives.

"gay": exuberant, merry, happily excited. (In other words, "gay" is a very positive word. Although homosexuals may indeed be gay at times, they are homosexuals always. Let's not forget that non-homosexuals can be gay at times as well. "Gay" is a cheery, happy word that should not be ceded to only those people who engage in aberrant sexual behaviors.)

"queer": odd, eccentric, unconventional, strange.

"fag": cigarette, stick, a toiler, to exhaust (as in fagged out), homosexual, etc.

Down with political correctness; don't let the pc brainwashers destroy the meanings of perfectly good words. Hold on to your old dictionaries .

This piece is at once refreshing and annoying. I wish the author had made a distinction between privately expressed epithets, and ones that are expressed for publication. Oh well.

"Why is it that he has to be in my face?"

He is not. . .his words mimic the Leftleaning/fallingover hangover of Feminism embodied in rallying cry. . .(Jane Fonda to be specific. . .) It is just relating to the stupidity of it all. . .

He is right, and the Political Correctness should be 'damned'; and most certainly by our Military.

If we do not stop taking it. . .they will keep on giving. . .and yes, be in OUR FACE with abomination of 'acceptable language' as herewith approved by our Government.

Ah, freedom. The liberty to indulge in elementary school put-downs.

Of course that's just the surface.

ozzymandus: The homosexual "leaders" do not represent the majority of homosexuals any more than black "leaders" care about the average black person: It's all about money. It's shameful that some "rear-admiral" had to get down on his knees before the gay lobby, but that's probably how he got the job in the first place.
Then you might have a real problem with Pres. Bush, too, when you read this article: Bush admin broadens gay overtures Excerpts
Bit by bit, the evidence accumulates, and some conservatives are dismayed at what they see: a Republican administration sending low-key but clear signals that gays are welcomed in its ranks and respected as a voting bloc. –Appointed openly gay men as head of the Office of National AIDS Policy and as ambassador to Romania, the highest appointments ever for uncloseted gays in a Republican administration.

–Retained executive orders Bill Clinton issued to ensure equal treatment for gays in the federal work force.

–Decided not to lobby against an amendment approved by the House of Representatives last month that permits domestic partnership benefits for gay employees of the District of Columbia.

Some conservatives were particularly angry that the partner of Ambassador to Romania Michael Guest was acknowledged by Secretary of State Colin Powell during last month's swearing-in ceremony.

Does that mean that Pres. Bush is on his knees, too?

>> I'm still trying to find out when " gay" became an adjective for a homosexual and not a description of a good time or a happy persona. << <<

I think it was the mid 1970s when a bunch of homosexuals started using it to make the activities they do around each other sound more jolly to the rest of us. It certainly hasn't been used in the "traditional" sense in my time...
