Good grief. Exactly how much damage would a 50 megaton bomb do? It sounds absolutely horrific.

This is Aaron, Actually the Czar bomb that WAS detonated was named Kild and had a yield of 58Mt. The 100 Megaton Version named Tsar Bomba had a yield of over 100MT. A 100 Mt yield would destroy an area the size of Germany except major concrete foundations. Kild's shock wave covered the globe 3 times at a high altitude. This doesn't mean its destructive force did though. Just the displacement from the blast. At 4,000 meters Kild was dropped from a Tu-95V Bear bomber, modified to carry such bombs, and detonated, it had a parachute aided delivery system and exploded below optimum blast height because the fireball touched the ground. Optimum blast height, in case you don't know, is the most efficient height for a nuclear device to detonate depending on its yield, at that altitude the shock wave forces down at the ground, instead of up form the ground, like at a ground level detonation.
