I was vaccinated as a baby in '67, and my scar is on the outside of my thigh. I don't think they gave it to babies in the arm, just like modern immunization injections are in the thigh for infants. Doubt I could even find my scar now!
I've had three small-pox vaccinations. The last was like a mosquito bite.
When I was six, "the scar" was a source of great pride. You were "grown up."
