You are making a claim that your right to privacy exceeds my right to life. I have coworkers near death at this very moment as a consequence of what may well be an ongoing attack.

I'd like to inform you that my right to life is of greater value to both me and my country, than your right to any level of privacy.

It is time for the government to get about the business of protecting me, and if you get hurt in the process, I could care less - actually it could be even worse than that; I could care about harm to you as much as you care about harm to me.

If you don't want to participate in this country, I encourage you to hat up. Have no idea where you might go because they have countries everywhere - maybe you could join a tribe in the Federal Tribal Territory in Pakistan, or maybe down with a bunch of headhunters along the Amazon - it just won't be here. We have a war to win, and people to protect, and it's long overdue that the government get on with it.

You’re damn right I am, thanks for putting it so simply. I has nothing to do with the fate of your coworker, and reading my mail won’t make the boggie man go away. My Conditional rights will always trump your need for safety, anything otherwise would be un-American.

I could care about harm to you as much as you care about harm to me.

Sounds like terrorism to me, shall I report you to the authorities?

If you don't want to participate in this country

You and your ilk make me sick it is you who is anti-American. Be gone!

Bush’s Anti-Terrorism Bill = Democrat Dejour In 2004.

"It is time for the government to get about the business of protecting me....."

if thats what your waiting for take a number and get back in line (its the one next to the govt cheese).
the govt has known since 1995 that there were islamic terrorists plotting to hijack commercial aircraft and crash them into the pentagon and the cia etc.
this govt caught a terrorist IN AUG.2001, at a flight school because his instructors were alarmed that he didnt want to learn how to take off or land. for whatever reason they assumed he wasnt part of a larger plot. maybe a quick check of the rosters for all flight schools in the past year might bring up say ATTA who was on the INTEL watch list (for having taken part in terrorist activity in egypt).
thats not hindsight talking... they already had an terrorist MO spelled out for 5-6 years. but apparently ATTA can enter our country, attend flight schools, and fly back and forth across our country with out it raising any flags.

this is the govt you want to protect you...they cant even decide if the anthrax in dc is high grade or backyard quality (they change their mind on a daily basis).

this govt tries to tell me that when the first case of inhaled anthrax (in the US)in 25 years shows up days after Sept 11th. he probably caught it "from a stream" give me a break.

if your waiting for them to protect you its a long wait. congress and the military will get the first line of defense. its up to us to take care of ourselves. grow a pair will ya.

as for "sunsets" since ive been alive ive never seen the govt give any power back. lets not kid ourselves. its a done deal.

you "seem" to want to be a conservative. wonder how youd feel with all of this constitution medling going on if clinton were calling the shots. you would be lumped in with all those evil conservative extremists. but hey the govt would be protecting you from yourself.

This would NOT have stopped the attack. Ya know why? Because there are a bunch of incompetent boobs in the alphabet agencies who drop the ball time and time again. FYI there was no magic wand waved over the world that made them competent and trustworthy after the attack

"I'd like to inform you that my right to life is of greater value to both me and my country, than your right to any level of privacy."

How arrogant you are. Oh sure me keeping my rights is gonna kill you. Pathetic

"It is time for the government to get about the business of protecting me, and if you get hurt in the process, I could care less - actually it could be even worse than that; I could care about harm to you as much as you care about harm to me."

Yes it is time the government did the ONE job it is suppose too. Giving the FBI more money, power and your rights on a silver platter is not the answer you may think it is. I guess it does not matter anymore that these people you exptect to protect you, have also killed and jailed innocent people.

You acquiesce with enthusiasm to a proven incompetents. That is not participation on your part. I am sick of people like you telling Americans to shut up, do what the government says or get out. It is despicable that any American would say that and especially one FReeper to another. This is just as much my country as it is yours. I know my rights and I want to keep them. If you don't like that then then you go to Pakistan.

And my right to freedom from government intrusion without due process is of greater value to both me and my country than this newfangled "right" for government to become sigmoidoscopists against law-abiding citizenry "because we're at war".

Some of us think the government is entirely capable of abusing this kind of power.

The Founding Fathers thought so. That's why we have a Constitution. Perhaps you've heard of it?

Actually, Tightsqueeze's right to privacy does exceed your right to life, unless of course TS or his property is somehow involved in the unlawful taking or injury to your life. On the other hand, TS may determine to give up some privacy to save your life, but that would be his or her decision to do so, not the governments.
