Acts of Sedition
self | 10/25/01 | self

Heard on the Savage show last nite that the anti-war activists and the alphabet news channels are commiting acts of sedition. 'These people should be locked up in interment camps till the war is over." he claimed. If you look up the definition of sedition Savage is correct. Just need Bush to take action.

Little media attention has been paid to our 9/11 tragedy. While networks still concentrate on the Afgan dead and starving.

I absolutely agree with you, with the exception that the Alien and Sedition act has been repealed, so there's no legal grounds to do so. (Not that they don't DESERVE it...)

"Little media attention has been paid to our 9/11 tragedy"

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

24/7 uninterupted coverage ever since the attacks began is now defined as little media coverage? Have you taken so much meth that you now have 128 hours in a day and 29 days in a week?

Just some examples are the lady who died Monday from burns over 100% of her body, no coverage. She worked in the WTC and was sprayed with burning jet fuel. She had been suffering till Monday. There has been no coverage of our victims being hauled out of WTC in body bags. I think Americans should see this so we remember. We have very short attention span. DUCKMAN

I don't believe so, on the Federal level. I am not a lawyer, so I could be wrong...

There _are_ laws against treason though, and in wartime, this can be construed to include revealing troop locations and plans. Not that anyone will do anything about the traitors in the pres...

If a sedition act were to be in force during a Democratic administration, FR would be shut down and I believe at least 10-15% of the posters could be facing criminal charges.

PLEASE be careful what you wish for.

The legal definition of sedition is conduct which is directed against a government and which tends toward insurrection but does not amount to treason. Treasonous conduct consists of levying war against the United States or of adhering to its enemies, giving them aid and comfort.

Sedition laws are alomst impossible to enforce because of the First Amendment. Seditious speech, even though its ultimate object is a violation of the public peace, does not aim at direct and open violence against the laws or the subversion of the Constitution, and is therefore protected by the courts.

Correct, all the requirements o sedition have been met.
Now the sedition and treason laws should be eliminated or enforced.
A discussion of them at the very least is appropriate.

Oh really? Are you linked to another planet or something?

That's rolling on the floor laughing funny coming from our own resident alien.

(Must be an Arab thing).
I understood what he meant perfectly:

We have been shielded from the images of our own mangled and dead, to protect our "sensibilities", but the networks have no problem airing propaganda directly from the enemy, of their injured and dead.
An agenda, ya think?

All aliens to the left, please...

Now the sedition and treason laws should be eliminated or enforced. A discussion of them at the very least is appropriate.

The Alien and Sedition Acts were a series of laws passed by Congress in 1798 to silence opposition to an expected war with France. Neither France nor the United States had declared war, but French and American ships had fought many battles.

Sounds strangely familiar. And history shows how sedition laws are abused. Let's not make the same mistake.

The Sedition Act was used to fine or imprison anyone who encouraged resistance to federal laws or who criticized the government.

Which is at odds with this:

Amendment I: "Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press;…and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

And this:

"Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America."

The Alien Friends Act expired in 1800, and the Sedition Act expired in 1801. Congress repealed the Naturalization Act, and the Alien Enemies Act was amended. And with that, one of the darkest periods of our Republic ended.
