[history]
It is so inspirational and uplifting to see all the flags and the "God Bless America" signs across our country these days. The sense of unity that has emerged from the September 11 attacks is heartening, as our country moves into this unexpected and unpredictable war against worldwide terrorism. There is one critical question we must all stop and ask ourselves, though: Why should God bless America? Is America blessing God, or has it been cursing Him since the 1960's?

If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face AND TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS; then will I hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2Chronicles 7:14

I couldn't if I tried to add a single word to that. The author is 100 percent down the line correct. Excellent editorial

ok so if we are so bad now were we any better on December 7, 1941? Wasn't it a much nicer place - no 900 numbers or abortion. If there is a God she has one warped sense of humor.

God didnt save me because of who I am He saved me because of who He is
He blesses me daily even though I do not deserve it..Will He bless our sinful nation...only He know the answer to that !

Great article. If God were to rank all the countries of the world in terms of their devotion and adherence to His expectations, where would the USA end up? Sadly, something tells me we're not doing as well as we should be.

Reminds of the what happens to lots of folks staying in the pokey; the get that JAILHOUSE RELIGION: bible totin', scripture saying guys while they're in the big house. Once they get out on the street, old habits return.
Our Lord never strays from us, we only stray from Him. He always takes us in after we wander farther off. There is no stronger Love.

God help us, if You are still listening. Hope it is not too late help us to abide by George Washington's warning about foreign entanglements. We have the met the enemy and 'we have become them'. We don't change them, they change us.
Close the borders, export all non-citizens, build fortress America or the USA won't last physically or spiritually for the next decade. Under Clinton, with GOP support, we have bombed many countries for some many years why are we surprised when we reap what we have sowed?

Thanks for the ping. The wonderful thing about God is how perfectly he has explained his character throughout His Book. It's amazing really. Nothing else like it in any other religious books. His treatment of Sodom is exactly how he will treat America. If there had been just a few righteous people in Sodom The Lord would have spared the city for their sake. Well we have more than a few and though God does allow folks to suffer the consequences of their own actions he will not destroy this nation. He may let others do it however but it's up to us and our resolve.

Well, I haven't seen something on FR that asinine in quite some time. It's too late to stick our heads in the sand. You can't build walls high enough to keep them out. Soon, if left alone the terrs will build nukes and they will shoot them over the walls at us. I know you are afraid but you just cannot hide. We have to go after them now while they are weak enough to defeat without getting into a nuclear exchange. If you had had your way in WWII we'd be speaking Deutch by now. You just could not be more wrong.

For thus saith the Lord: Although I shall send in upon Jerusalem my four grievous judgements, the sword and the famine, and the mischievous beasts, and the pestilence, to destroy out of it man and beast;...You shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord God.-Ezech. xiv.21,23

In His sovereignty, God alone has the power to protect our country and bring victory, but we need to make some drastic changes before we can expect Him to do that.I would never expect him to do that. He gave us free will and in doing so gave us the power to make good of or destroy our own lives. I do not expect God to bring us victory and to assume so is arrogant at it's best, asinine at it's worst.

This is just a spin-off on the "God is punishing America" diatribe....in which self-righteous individuals actually take the same position of Bin Laden and militant Islam fanatics in saying terrorism against th US is really God's (or Allah's) punishment.
Jerry Falwell rightfully earned national scorn for making such a statement, and was wise enough to admit his error and apologize for it.
I wonder if the author of this letter included any of her personal sins in the list of reasons God is supposedly lifting his hand of protection from this nation?
Bet she didn't! Unless of course she considers herself sinless.
Perhaps if her family members are attacked and murdered we could point out her personal sins as to blame for the crimes committed against her and those she loves.
I'm sure self-righteousness, judgement, lack of human empathy and mercy would be at the top of the list.
Incredible!
Furthermore I wonder why she only focused the bad ,and completely ignored the good in the U.S?
What about the amazing displays of charity, self-sacrifice and love the American people have shown for those in need..not only after this tragedy..but throughout history....and not only toward other Americans but to all humans around the world..friends and enemies alike?
'When natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods strike other nations, no country on earth responds with greater alacrity or generosity than ours. When famine and disease decimate foreign populations, America is almost always the first and sometimes the only nation in the world to lend assistance.'
The fact is America's track record is quite demonstrably the most awe-inspiring model of charity, generosity and benevolence in the recorded history of mankind.
Perhaps like the author above, America should respond to the suffering and misfortune of victims with self-righteous judgements of how they brought it on themselves..and God is "removing His protection".??? How shameful!
