Actually, since next year I will be teaching in Compton, CA, through Teach for America, Decline and Fall has recently become my favorite Waugh novel.
I find Brideshead Revisted very sad and difficult to get through, although obviously brilliant.
The only "Decline And Fall" I ever read was "Decline And Fall of the Roman Empire" by Gibbons but what do I know since I am one of those terribly impolite yahoo populist conservatives. Oh, did I mention that it was the unabridged edition? I read it while traipsing around Europe. And remember, I said it was the UNABRIDGED edition (in the original Latin).
