After the Gulf War, we had a lot of prisoners of war that were in camps in Saudi Arabia. These were not people who had fled Iraq because they did not like Saddam. These were members of the military including the Republican Guard who had been captured during the war. We agreed to relocate many of these people to the U.S. Some of them conveniently claimed that if they went back to Iraq, Saddam would kill them. There may have been some truth to that but only because they had allowed themselves to be taken as prisoners, (not because they had fled from Saddam). The majority of these people would have an intense hatred for the United States after we came after their country militarily. Our government thought that they would come over here and just fall in love with freedom and our way of life and turn out to be model, law-abiding citizens. We in Oklahoma City know better than that. We have what our police call the Iraqi Mafia in Oklahoma City.
