As I understand it Adam means first man and Essau means "ruddy" which would make sense if he was a hunter and outdoorsman hunting meats for the family. Jacob means deceiver.
I'll have to do a bit more hunting on Esau and Jacob. Adam (as in Adam of Eden) was the first man. Adam (as in the word 'Adam', or the meaning of Adam's name) means mankind {Strong's
[0120]}. According to the Strong's, Esau means "hairy" {Strong's
[06215]} (Gen 25:25 -
And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.), and Jacob means "heel holder" or "supplanter" {Strong's
[03290]} (Gen 25:26 -
And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel;...). Hope this helps.
