I don't have a very high degree of tolerance for monarchies as a form of government, even in the largely ceremonial sense as in the UK.

But his renunciation of the crown is kind of a hollow protest as long as he retains any pretentions to the rank and titles afforded him as a member of the "royal family".

Either you are "in the game" with all of this peerage stuff, or you are not. I mean, is he renouncing his position in the lineage, and on throughout all of his children and their generations? Is he really declaring himself to be "a commoner" (as the gentry so gently put it).

Or is he simply looking to follow in the madcap and carefree footsteps of his good old Uncle Andy? Lots of cash, not a care in the world, castles, serfs, vassels, porn stars for bed warmers.

What a life!

What an breathtaking snub to renounce the family name and refuse to participate in the Golden Jubilee anniversary of Elizabeth.

Diana really did a number on those kids while she had them.
