LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Clinton Presidential Foundation has purchased seven acres in Hot Springs that will be a retreat for the former president and visiting dignitaries, the foundation's president said.

Foundation president Skip Rutherford said the group paid $942,500 for the property on Lake Hamilton. It had been a family gathering place when Clinton was a boy and was owned by relatives.

The Hot Springs Planning Commission approved the retreat plans in August. Architect Jim Yeary said he plans to use stone and natural wood to maintain a casual lodge-like atmosphere.

The retreat will include a main house, a conference center, three cabins, a gatehouse, a boathouse and a facility for the Secret Service.

The Clinton Presidential Center, including a library, museum and the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, are planned for a site in Little Rock.

Construction on the retreat could begin next year. The library is scheduled to open in 2004.

I was unaware that land values in Arkansas have risen to $134,571.42 per acre? Wow, we sure have come a long way since Whitewater.

They found yet another way to line their pockets.

My idiot cousins, who adore Bill Clinton, sent me a copy of a fundraising letter they got for the Clinton Library. It's 3 1/2 pages of sleek sincerity as far as the eye can see, and guaranteed to make you puke your head off. Just praising Clinton to the heavens....and begging, I'm talking BEGGING for money, "a $35.00 contribution will mean so much.". And written by none other than James Carville.

Along with it is a drawing of the architect's vision of the Library. No mention of the Little Rock "retreat", but I'm betting both ventures are hurting....big time!

The only good thing about Clinton's Arkansas sites....they will provide us southern freepers with great centrally located places to freep for years to come.

The Clinton School of Public Service? Just what will that consist of? Isn't that description itself contrary? Are they sure it is not Pubic Service?

Anything larger than seven acres gives the women too much of a chance of getting away from Bubba. Kind of like those movies where they give someone a 5 minute head start before they hunt em down.

Prediction: Bubba's first "customer" will be Gary Condit.(....one more place to molest/rape fresh young interns in private....)

Any FOOL donating money to the The Bent One's library should have known the money would be wasted on foolishness like this.

Yeah. I wonder how much Bubba and Hirlery will be pocketing?
Maybe if things get tough and they can't aceess the bribe money,
they could get a "Motel 6" franchise for the retreat and rent out
rooms for $29.95 per hour.

You misconstrue. He expects the public to service him. You know, the way Monica did.

Vera-stone and T1-11 siding slapped on a double wide seems appropriate.
