FBI looking into report that suspected hijacker scouted Tennessee chemical plant

COPPERHILL, Tenn. (AP) -- Months before terrorists attacked America, two Middle Eastern men landed a small plane at an airstrip in the Appalachian foothills after getting a look at a nearby river and a huge chemical plant.

Danny Whitener, a 48-year-old junk car dealer who was alone tending his plane when the strangers arrived, is convinced one of the men was Mohamed Atta, whom authorities believe was the ringleader of the Sept. 11 suicide hijackings.

I know this town, its right up the road from me. The odd thing that struck me about this article when reading it is that Copper Hill has alot of Lebonese immigrants that settled in that mining town many years ago. It used to have a big copper mine and I always guessed that the Lebonese came to that area for that reason only...they were copper miners. You need to understand that in this area of the country Arab immigrants are VERY rare. This part of the country was settled by the Scot-Irish. I don't know if there is a connection or not.
