Let me be the first to thank you for focusing attention on the tragic plight of the women of Afghanistan. By wearing the traditional burqa, you have vividly illustrated the hellish life that these oppressed women face under Taliban rule.
Let me also suggest that you keep up the pressure. Please, wear the burqa again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next, relentlessly, until we have brought justice to the women of Afghanistan, and possibly for eight or nine months after that, too, just in case.
And please, please, enlist other women members of congress - Hillary Clinton, Rosa De Lauro, Barbra Mikulsky, Maxine Waters to name but a few - in this vital show of American resolve.
American hearts will swell with joy, pride and relief when we see you and these other fine representatives united in support of the oppressed women of Kabul. If you cannot find authentic burqas, please feel free to use bedsheets, tarps, grocery bags, etc. We will get the point.
