I think this analysis is true, and that it can remain true long enough to dispose of Taliban. Over the longer haul, American success against Taliban will be followed up by hordes of American and UN bureaucrats infesting the region, each one trying to build up his empire. Those guys will screw things up for certain, and always "from the best of motives". It is always a shame to win the war and lose the peace.

Yeah, but look at the bright side -- that is that many fewer bureaucrats that will be in the U.S. And those types really do have fathers and mothers, and take 18-25 years to breed and train. Despite rumors they do not propagate from cell division. Anything that increases the demand elsewhere reduces their numbers in our country. It is a sad fate for the proud Afghan people, but war is hell.
