All (or just a plain cross) are acceptable and used largely depending on circumstances (e.g. the parish I grew up in would cover the risen depiction that was on our cross from Good Friday until Easter - It just didn't seem proper to display a risen Christ while contemplating the results of our sin)

Without enciting an internicene war, I would like to point out that the rubrics pretty clearly anticipate a crucified corpus on the main crucifix in the sanctuary. Of course we all know the rubrics were largely thrown out in practice because of "the Spirit of Vatican II."

For the eventual end of this spirit see the movie "Dogma" and the "Buddy Christ" figure.

Well... it wasn't originally a diocese parish. While I was growing up it was one of a couple parishes in the US (I think the others are in Chicago) run by the Claretians - a missionary order that does most of their work in central and south America. So maybe they were a little unusual (we also never had kneelers - heresy!:-))

But I could swear that there were three acceptable depictions. I'll look it up this evening.

Did you get the impression that Kevin Smith was making fun of the "we must follow the 'spirit' of Vatican II, forget what the actual documents say" type of Catholics with his "Catholicism WOW!" plot device?

That is the way I took it and found it(the whole buddy Christ thing) quite funny for it shows, by absurdity, just how ridiculous those people are.

On a related note, did any other Catholic in here delight in the misery and gnashing of teeth that the people at the National Catholic Reporter(you know, the heretical one) and the rest of the usual suspects displayed over Liturgiam Authenticam a few months back?

If those jackasses don't like it then you can bet the farm that it is good for the Church.

Pray for John Paul II
