Mr.C would have behaved in an objective manner if he was listening to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the source of Truth. The objective source of Truth. He is being subjective if he listens to "his" own whims and fancies. The key here is the Holy Spirit.

I don't think we can tell that from my story. If he is listening to himself or the Holy Spirit, that is. The assumption is that he believes he is hearing the Holy Spirit.

so then your real question is, like someone has already mentioned, is how do you know you are hearing the Holy Spirit? How do you know your interpretation is correct?
