The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.
Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |

Did I? Should we not talk about great believers who show us by their example how to live a life of faith? Should we only talk of Jesus?Sure we can. I never said we shouldn't. Just don't obsess with it. I've seen too much of that. And then pretty soon you guys start praying, worshipping and venerating the wrong stuff.

I think you have to read that as the saints being the origin and source of change in human history. They were a catalyst of events. That's what I figured and what I tried to put into words following that first remark. Thank you, my ever-eloquent (well, except for that a**hole remark) brother.

"To obey is better than sacrifice"
Your excuse, reasoning for what you do doesn't pass this obediance test. Saul, the king, learned the hard way!

Your excuse, reasoning for what you do doesn't pass this obediance test. It is not an excuse and it is not reasoning. We worship the Lord through sacrifice because Jesus Himself commanded us to do so.

Should have invited them in. You and them should get along beautifully. As a matter of fact, the ones I have met a nice, polite young men who try not to offend.

Always a disclaimer. Always a caveat. Always a stipulation. On and on and on and on and on. Yawn. Steven I already said that the wording is poor and assumes a Catholic understanding. You go out of your way to find it offensive on the surface and then brush off our attempts to explain what is really meant. Yes Steven, a disclaimer, a caveat. I am sorry.

You know Steven, early Becky had said something which seemed on the surface to be saying something contrary to what I knew her beliefs to be. I questioned this and gave her a chance to explain what she really meant and to clear up what could be misunderstood.
All we ask is the same consideration.

Should we only talk of Jesus? Mother Angelica ('the brown nun', as my friends used to call her when she first began her TV show) started her show by saying "Let's talk about Jesus". Don't know if she still does that or not. (I don't really watch EWTN anymore! ;o)

"I rejoice in my sufferings in your behalf, and I fill up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ in my flesh in behalf of his body, which is the church." PRODDIES AND IFBB'S: how do you interpret this passage?
To: SoothingDave
Steven I already said that the wording is poor and assumes a Catholic understanding. I can deal with that. But then ya had to continue down this road to ugliness. Of course ya had to drag me with. :-) Peace. Truce. Go Steelers.

I feel like I'm sitting in the principal's office again. :-)

You expect me to pick a fight with Mother Angelica? ;-)
The question is whether only Jesus should be told stories about, or used as a model of faith. He is of course the perfect model, but do we benefit from the model of those more like us?

IMR, I think the idea is that ordination is a lifetime commitment ,so, married men can be Ordained but Ordained men cannot marry .
To: dadwags
That's true. And I think that's how it's handled for Deacons (is that what you were refereing to?). I'm not sure how other rites within Catholicism deal with the issue.

Did you have problems with authority Steven???Uh no. er.....uh....remember.......I was sprinkled as an infant.

"I rejoice in my sufferings in your behalf, and I fill up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ in my flesh in behalf of his body, which is the church." There are so many things in that one sentence. Happiness in suffering. Suffering for other people's behalf (indulgences anyone?). The Church being the Body of Christ. Paul's flesh filling up what is lacking in the afflications of Christ. The implication that the sufferings help accomplish this "filling up."
