The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

You need to take that up with God. He's the one who chose to accomplish salvation through men.

I took it up with God. He then came into my heart (born again experience), gave me a Bible that inspired men wrote and provided a wonderful church with many christian brothers and sisters to fellowship with. And all that minus the ritual even. Isn't that wonderful? So why are you guys jumpin' all over me? All I'm doing is responding to Al's survey.

Do we learn anything from hearing the stories of the Bible?

I don't know. Sometimes I wonder if you guys do.

From hearing about Abraham and Isaac and Joseph and...? Why bother telling the stories of these folks, who had great faith and put it to use, when we have the example of the perfect man, Jesus?

Sure all this is great. Could it be that the lives of these people reflect on their faith, on God's glory and help us relate our own lives to theirs? Should we only ever talk of Jesus, as talking about anyone else is "comin' in the back door"?

I guess you're right. Show me how to pray to St. Boniface?

The reason I can't read these things consistently is because I usually can't get past the first quote in the green bordered box. Such as the example given above. Saints have no power other than whats given them by the Lord. Just more catholic speak in my opinion. (and you did ask for my opinion) However, it doesn't bother me that you post them.

I can buy that. Quite honestly, I have a little trouble with that particular quote, too. Unless, of course, it's referring to the actions of the saints while they were still here on this earth. After all, they've been named saints because of what they did here, right?

But you could always ignore those little quotes and read the rest. BTW ... the links to the scripture readings are from the Bible. You know ... that book we both use. ;o) Feel free to read those if you want.

I usually consider prayer and worship equal. Holding one in the same light as Christ is pretty serious also. And the commandment forbidds us to "....nor bow down to them" (the second commandment I believe).

Ah yes, essentially identical to the reasons the Mormons who come to my door give me for why they became Mormons.

Should have invited them in. You and them should get along beautifully.

I think you have to read that as the saints being the origin and source of change in human history. They were a catalyst of events.

I do invite them in, and I get along fine with them while pointing out the errors of their ways.

That's good. I encourage you to continue.

I'm glad none of us does that. Mary and the saints are infinitely less than Christ.

I usually consider prayer and worship equal.

And I have no doubt you do. This is because all you have is prayer and praise.

We consider worship to be sacrifice. This is how we worship God, and only God: by offering to Him the only acceptable sacrifice: Christ on the Cross. If we were to offer sacrifice to Mary or a saint then we would be worshipping the same. We don't and we don't.

I believe God accomplish salvation thru Jesus Christ not man, but as satan would say, he didn't really mean that.

Hit a nerve eh?

Did I? Should we not talk about great believers who show us by their example how to live a life of faith? Should we only talk of Jesus?

Jesus Christ was not a man? He did not come to us by being born of a woman? He did not send out his human disciples to speak His message to the world?
