Thank you. We think of the moment of the Cross as the central moment in time, and during the Mass we are present then and there and this is how we participate in the perfect sacrifice.
Does the communion wafer taste like flesh and the wine taste like blood? I'm asking this seriously.
The theory of transubstantiation is that the substance (or essence), the "what is it?" of the thing is changed. The "accidents" or outward apearances remain the same. It is only discerned by faith.
The bread tastes like bread and the wine tastes like wine. Any scientific test would find bread and wine for science can only test the accidents.
Think about it the other way. If you could DNA test it and found out it was actual human blood, wouldn't everyone become Catholic? Wouldn't this rob our chance of freely believing?

This of course, is a double-edged sword. The same is true for the Catholic interpretation of this verse. I mentioned this several times, however, not until a Proddie mentioned an alternate interpretation for the verse, did anyone acknowledge the comma issue. Odd.
Boy are you on the wrong thread! A week doesn't go by that I am not told that I am following the devil straight to hell!

As a Pentecostal, let me put in a good word for my misguided dispensationalist brethren :)
I do not think differing over the issue of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit or tongues or other "Holy Ghost" phenomena is anywhere in the vicinity of blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
That's different. You really are :)
We don't hang our entire belief on the comma. Some people around here are so convinced that they are right and all others are wrong, especially Catholics, that admission of ambiguity by Catholics makes Catholics wrong.
I only ask for what is fair. If there are multiple interpretations possible I will admit as such. I am not convinced of my infallible inspiration as are some of your co-religionists.

Thank you for restraint. I would be cautious about criticism in this area. You may not believe it but there is no sense in going further. I say this because I have no doubt within myself what I experienced was from God and desire no one punished for their ignorance of what I have experienced. There is scripture and reason and I will get back just wanted to warn please don't say flighty things that to me would be frightening and caused by my witness. Again, thanks.
And I'm taking as many of you with me as I can! Ha Ha Ha Ha (sinister laughter)

(PS: The Jews are right)
For catholics, it doesn't have to be truthful, as long as it is "beautiful." The more mystical, the better, but they hide the truth that our Lord presented Himself once, for all time and for all sin. In their churches, He is being "unbloodily" sacrificed 24 hours a day all over the world. I thank God that it is only a figment of their imagination. Our Lord is in the "heavenlies" seated at the right hand of the Father being our advocate and interceding on our behalf.

Are we that far gone that we need to continue this thread when FR is down? I guess I'm getting addicted.
I'm just asking... I've noticed that I've spent WAY too much time watching this thread lately and tried to "cut back" (I'm not sure we're being very productive - but it sure is entertaining) maybe I need a "patch".
I'm convinced that some of you guys (generic term Becky) are retired since I can hardly keep up with your posts, let alone respond to everything.

So, when are you going to wake up? :)

That having been said, we should avoid having discussions that try to pit "the original Greek" or Hebrew against the plain English translation. I had one argument with a lib trying to tell me that the OT verse about sodomy being an abomination actually said that for a gay man NOT to be gay is an abomination.
Yes I do believe it because the Bible speaks to it. If the scripture speaks to it, it can happen. Belief has little to do with it at that point. I view the scripture as being like an immoveable mountain. You can run at it at 90 miles an hour and whether you believe it's there or not, you *will* hit it if you stay your course. My belief of it makes it neither more or less true. It is true because scripture addresses it. As such, I embrace it.
Where I draw the line doesn't matter a whit. The warnings are there. The law of men says it is wrong to steal. It doesn't say it's wrong to steal 10 times, 100 times, 9000 times. It says it's wrong to steal. If you get caught on the first or the five hundredth time, it's still stealing and it's still wrong. The law is the judge of us here. God and his word are the judge of us in that. So, I would say it is between each person and God. God is the ultimate judge of when you've gone too far without repentance.
Uh, thanks, I think.
Well, when its down for several hours straight, it is nice to have a backup. At least its something to do until the main board comes back up, besides loading and reloading the Yahoo FR site for status reports.
I really do read other articles posted on FR too! ;o) This is my main source of news.
You're welcome. I guess. There's this amusing special Rowan Atkinson did for Showtime about 10 years ago and he plays a character of the Devil welcoming people into Hell. You know, "Robbers, burglars, and lawyers stand over there" "Male adulterers please form a line in front of the small guillotine" "The French, are you here? Please go wait over there with the Germans"
Then he says "Christians? Oh, I am sorry. The Jews were right."
