I know there's a lot in there about how poor my church is at teaching people what Scripture really means. But at least there is evidence of my church trying to do such things.

Which you yourself admitted was a good idea. Now where is the evidence of your church doing such things? It's almost like they didn't exist at all.

There ya go separating churches again. I have fellowship with all who believe (and we know what that word requires) in Christ. You're too stuck in your denomination.

I've been hearing about all of these different beliefs within Islam and I have to laugh. That rag they read isn't worthy to be torn up and made packaging material for a cheap gift bible and yet look at the vast differences in inperpretation among us 'Christians'. Imagine how useless it is to sit and analyze what Islam is suppose to be?

I will second SoothingDave's question. Which doctrine expressed in the Niceo-Constantinopolitan Creed do you object to? (I'm making it easy on you: you only have to find a current liturgical text, not separate out the parts written at Niceae in 325 from the part written at Constantinople in 381.)

This statement says it all. You are admitting, just as the RCC says, that the Catholic layperson is not qualified to interpret the Bible.

Well yeah duh! "I have enough sense to know I don't have enough sense" And the Bible also says I shouldn't.

Why then do you even bother to read it at all?

Because I am directed by the Church to read it. As long as I don't start thinking I'm the only person who understands this or that verse, I'll be Ok.

You are correct. St. Constantine did lean toward the Arian position. He called the Council because he wanted peace in the Church, and was obedient to the decision of the bishops, despite their decision going against his inclinations.

As to claims "the Emperor" was in charge for many years, another case is instructive. St. Justinian was called to account by one of the Ecumenical Councils (I think the Sixth) for alleged monophysitical sympathies. He was obliged to compose a statement of faith to clear himself of heresy charges. That statement now is used as a prayer in Orthodox Divine Liturgies: the Prayer of St. Justinian the Emperor occurs just after the Second Antiphon.

I believe Bass did a good job refuting the 28,000 denomination thing a few threads ago with an extra-biblical source, the yellow pages.

And Paul also tells us that we have "One Lord, one faith, one baptism" Eph. 4:5. The current state of Christendom is not one faith. Hence the qualifying distinctions. Trying to whitewash our differences are of no help to our common goal(I hope that is one of your goals) of unity.

And why is Paul calling Peter "Cephas"? I thought that Peter wasn't Rock. Oh, well.

I almost have to agree with you. It is easier to say I'm "Protestant" than to explain just what I mean by "Christian". I will not accept "neo-Christian" though. (I know - it wasn't you.)

Marvelous choice of words. So the Church was willing to accept "help" from the Emperor even though they had no choice. The Church was not in charge. The Emperor was, and Emperors would remain so for many years.

How do you know they had no choice? Why do you say the Church was not in charge? Do you even know what was discussed and decided upon at this council besides refuting the Arian heresy and writing a profession of faith we call the Nicene Creed?

You don't actually read such drivel, do you? I'm assuming you read their comments in some proper Catholic media, like the Wanderer.

Actually, I do read NCR. I read it because I enjoy watching the liberals squirm and to keep abreast of how they are trying to destroy the Church. Worry not though, I instantly read solidly orthodox Catholic magazines to wash my mind clear of any trace of NCR's lunacy.
