The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Pascha

Pascha is amazing close to the Hebrew word for "Passover".

Did you see that the numbers are right again? Must of be the new format that did it, what do you think of the new format?

I haven't noticed a difference yet. Haven't had much time to go anywhere but here. :-)

Totems come in many forms. I am reminded me of the medical use of Bibles. If you develop a ganglionic cyst just hit it with a Bible. Or the fortune-telling tip I hot from my(Baptist) grandmother. Make a wish and then open the Old Testament at random: If it opens on a passage that says "And it came to past." then you will get your wish.:-]

I bet you really love to listen to yourself talk. Come on now. Admit it.

The feast of Our Lord's Resurrection is only called "Easter" in English speaking countries. In countries where romance languages are spoken, and in Greece, the name is derived from the Hebrew name for Passover with consonants psch. In modern Hebrew, the vowels given make it Pesach. In Greek the Feast of the Resurrection is called Pascha. (Note the vowels in modern Hebrew were added by (sadly) anti-Christian rabbis in the middle ages, so what vowels ancient Hebrew used is not immediately clear.)

I can live with celebrating our Lord's ressurection and calling it "Pesach". "Easter" is pagan. Which was my original point. Maybe you should change your name to "ignorant"?

As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. !!!

My dear friend, I believe Paul was speaking of themselves being the bride of Christ. Notice in the verses immediately following this teaching Paul begins to "Show them a mystery", mortality putting on immortality. This is what was yet to be accomplished and they were told to wait for the Lords return to be "caught away", not seeing physical death. Then they would rule and reign with Christ. Christians today mistakenly read this as a hope for today.

I realize your screen name is a swat at the Latin church's notion that those outside their visible communion can be saved if they are "invincibly ignorant", but sometimes you do seem to earn the handle.

Thank you oh great one. I'll meditate on this.

Ok. If Ressurection day is called pasach in other countries what's your problem with me celebrating Passover?

St. Constantine called the feast Pascha. In English the feast became known as Easter because it always fell in the month of Oestre, an Anglo-Saxon month name derived from a pagan goddess's name. To object to it on that basis, however, is a bit like objecting to Maundy Thursday because Thursday is named for the Norse god Thor, or to the Fourth of July because July is named for Julius Ceasar (who, after all is a pagan god, having been voted divine honors by the Roman Senate).

I have a problem with the Lord's resurrection day being named after a pagan goddess. If that makes me ignorant so be it. Easter=Ishtar. If you disagree perhaps you should change your screen name.

I know that and would not recommend doing so. Where would I go? I would last maybe a couple visits at most until I could stand no more and would commence to letting the folks know where they are in error. There are only a certain number of places to go before I would run out of my welcome, then what? God will show me my place when He is ready in His good time, until then I will torture you good friends with the truth.

I just jumped on this morning and thought something was wrong. First, I was told I had 2,770 new posts, second, it took a while for me to get my bearings. I hope it is settling down. Did you notice any way to do a "self-search" on the opening screen?

I'm pretty muich like an old cat. If you change my routine I get discombobulated and stay that way for a while. We'll see.

ALL

Looks like the new format has fixed the numbers but it is now causing a problem when we post.

When you now post to some one, it doesen't show right up, it takes three more posts from yourself or someone else before its shows up.

We may have to start a new thread to get this fixed. Should be an easy fix, we can get together on monday and talk it over when everyone is back.
