The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Yes! The Lions will win the Superbowl this year if this holds up! No Monday night games for them this season.

LOL The guy I heard this from on the radio is a Lions fan and he said the same thing.

Rams and Broncos right out of the shute this year.

I'm looking forward to the Rams- Bears game. I can't wait to see what the Bears and Pats do with a first place schedule

IOW, your anecdotal evidence is baloney!

Duh, did I say it would happen again? The Rams play on Monday night this year too. I was just pointing out some useless, but true, trivia. Take a chill pill or something.

Does this sound like Mary asked Jesus to perform a miracle or, for that matter, to take any action at all, or does it sound like she was telling him "they have no wine"?

At Mary’s request Jesus performed his first miracle.

His mother deferred to Jesus, not the reverse as you wish to imagine.

Yes Mary deferred to Jesus. I don’t imagine this in the reverse. Why would you think I do?

Her "Do whatever he tells you" is her contrite way of acknowledging Jesus as her leader.

I never said anything different. Do you not think this is sound advice?

Of course, Paul is urging Timothy that prayers be offered for people who are currently living. It isn't even hinted that anyone but living people are asked to pray for living people.

If this is your interpretation for “all men” I disagree.

Do you care to expound on this? This is a role for Mary?

The Catholic teaching is this verse prophetically foreshadows Mary and Jesus.

Do you still claim this is about Mary??

Don’t remember quoting Genesis 3:16.

Are you forgetting, or unaware, that Jesus's brothers didn't believe in him until the ressurection?

The only “brothers” that Jesus had were fellow believers.

Are you forgetting, or unaware, that John (the "one whom Jesus loved") was the only apostle present at the crucifiction?

I know this.

Jesus loved John, John was there, his mother was there, his brothers not only weren't there but they didn't believe in him . It was a natural for Jesus to ask John to take care of his mother.

You are missing the significance of this passage. Jesus told John to “Behold thy mother”. Unless you believe Mary was John’s mother, why would he say this?

A question for you: Where was Peter through all this?

Probably in the upper room with the rest of the Apostles.

Let's grant that only the chosen few can grasp the teaching of the Church.

OK

What is the teaching of the RCC regarding birth control?

Natural Family Planning

What is the birth rate among RC's in such countries as France, Italy, and the United States?

I don’t know. You tell me.

How is this birth rate maintained?

Perhaps Unnatural Family Planning?

Explain the difference between the actions and words of these "good" Catholics who maintain such a low birth rate?

Maybe they’re “good” Catholics in need of some soul searching.

Do you care (dare) to predict how the Pats will do this season? (I don't dare predict anything.)

Yes. They will kick butt.

Don't worry. The Broncos will be healthy this year. They beat the Pats despite all the injuries. And they're on the schedule coming in here again this season.

Easter and Christmas are deeply rooted in paganism and astrological rain dances completely without merit within the bible. The fact that Christ rose from the dead is not meant to be celebrated and not celebrated by the early church, but the living Christ within you at this very moment and every moment is a daily clebration not meant to be put aside in favor of a day when we had no hope. Even after the resurrection, Christ told his disciples that he had to go away so that the Comforter, which he would pray the Father would come to them. The Comforter came to them on the day of Pentecost in the upper room. The 120 who received it then went out into the world and began showing that the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, was a gift sent from God and that all who beleieve in Christ should receive. It was a promise to them, their children and all who were afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call. HAVE YOU RECEIVED THE HOLY GHOST SINCE YOU BELIEVED?

When God said "everything" did that mean animals that will make us sick or die if we eat them? For example, there are poisonous frogs that will cause instant death if ingested. There are also toxic insects, fish and other animals. When God said everything, did he really mean everything?

Is you argument that the unclean animals were unclean because they will make you sick? I'll remember that next time I eat lobster. This argument won't fly logically.

So you translate the verse as "For Christ, our paschal lamb, has been sacrificed. Let us therefore...not celebrate, but speak in tongues instead"?

Mat 15:17 Do you not yet understand that whatever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly, and is cast out into the waste-bowl?
Mat 15:18
But the things which come out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile the man.
Mat 15:19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies;
Mat 15:20 these are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.

Jesus certainly was talking about handwashing.

?????

Mt 13:13 - This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

That's part of it. The dangers of shellfish are well known. Many people have allergies and there is the danger of PSP, commonly caused by shellfish ingesting a type of toxic red algae.

But really my argument was that here:

Gen 9:3 Every moving thing that lives will be food for you. As the green herb, I have given everything to you.

God obviously wasn't saying man could eat ALL animals since there are many that will kill him or make him sick. So what God must have meant was that we can eat all animals that are fit for human consumption...which of course means that God knows a little something more than we do about the animals he created.

Romans 14:5 One man esteems one day as better than another, while another man esteems all days alike. Let every one be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. He also who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God; while he who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 None of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8 If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God; !!

Colossians 2:15 He disarmed the principalities and powers and made a public example of them, triumphing over them in him.
2:16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a sabbath.

He's been told these verses many times, but he seems to think God didn't always mean what he says (although he won't say that). Go figure.

Mr 12:36 - David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, declared, 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I put thy enemies under thy feet.'
Lu 1:15 - for he will be great before the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
Lu 1:35 - And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.
Lu 1:41 - And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit
Lu 2:25 - Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
Lu 4:1 - And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit
Joh 20:22 - And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. ;^)

I said no such thing. I could find no such verse. I said nothing of speaking in tongues. The celebration of Easter as astologically based and pagan is well documented and all Christians should reject it.

Sorry about the tongues reference. I thought you were speaking of "spirit baptism" as distinct from "accepting Christ as personal Lord and Savior". Such conversations often start out with the verse you finished with.

As to not finding "any such verse": Try 1 Cor 5 (5,6,7 or 8?). I think it's "..Christ our paschal lamb is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast"

John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Acts 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Acts 20:29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
