ok, but I believe as others have stated, that the sin nature is passed through the father. I am in the process of searching the Scriptures to back up this claim.

Creation itself speaks of God. Even if you have not been told, or read about him he is revealed in creation. What the person does with that revelation is between the person and God.

Nicely stated, Becky!

The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. (Psalm 19:1)

The point is that we are not to take a translation, any translation, and treat it as definitive, as authoritative, as the source for developing our own theology. It is the underlying original Latin which is authoritative. We have to trust the translators to get it right and sometimes they don't. Because they are going for "readability" or "modern idiom" instead of trying to relay subtle theological points found in the original tongue.
-----------------------------------------------------------

The "underlying original Latin" which is a translation from the original Greek???? Cut it out.

You fail to see that we are all sinners, that no one can fulfill the Law. We have all sinned and without the atoning blood of Christ to wash away our sins we will be condemned by the Law. So how does the one who has sinned become righteous in the sight of God without the blood of Christ. Paul is right is saying the doers of the Law will be justified. Those who never transgress the Law will be justified. There is only one catch. No one can do it. It is impossible not to sin. It is impossible to keep the Law. Only Christ can.

The pronouncement of this doctrine arose from people denying that Jesus was God, or was eternally God (that Jesus "became" God at some point of his life, etc.)

Then it would be better to show their error from the Biblical record, it is easy enough to do. Why invent a term that incorperates Mary in the mix. This just further confuses things to the "sheep". The cure is almost as bad as the disease. Step back and look at it as if you were hearing it for the first time" "Mary, the mother of God". If you are fair and honest you can see the problem with that statement. It implies that Jesus, who is God, did not exist before his human birth and that God himself sprang from Mary, rather than Mary being a created being, made by God. IOW, as with the other RC Mariology, it puts the emphasis in the wrong place.

Mary did not "pass on" divinity to Jesus. Mary is not divine!

CO-REDEMPTRESS WITH CHRIST. Catholic doctrine about Mary goes far beyond her role in Jesus' birth. It is taught that she shared in His sufferings also, and thereby shared in His work of redemption. We will give this in the words of the Vatican II documents:

"As St. Irenaeus says, she being obedient, became the cause of salvation for herself and for the whole human race. Hence not a few of the early Fathers gladly assert with him in their preaching `death through Eve, life through Mary'. This union of the mother with the Son in the work of salvation is made manifest from the time of Christ's virginal conception up to his death. She cooperated in the work of the Saviour in an altogether singular way to restore supernatural life to souls. As a result, she is our mother in the order of grace. Mary, sharing as she did even on Calvary, had a part even in the once for all acquisition of the great treasury. Now from this common sharing of will and suffering between Christ and Mary, she `merited to become most worthily the Reparatrix [one who makes amends or atonement] for a lost world,' and therefore, Dispensatrix [one who dispenses] of all the gifts which Jesus gained for us by His death and His blood (Vatican II documents).

Sounds pretty DIVINE to me.

Canon Law still requires that Catholics not eat meat on Fridays!

Of course, most Episcopal Conferences have determined that, instead of abstaining from meat, Catholics may perform an act of penance of their choosing. But, do you ever remember to abstain from a particular food or do some other penance on Fridays? And, at any rate, the main rule is still to abstain from meat on Fridays, the performance of another penance instead is an optional alternative.

Thank you JHavard for the reminder and for digging this up for us. I have seen varying statements about what exactly is required and it is my understanding that in the US at least, nothing is mandatory for regular Fridays. With our wimpy bishops this is not surprising. It is in the mind of the overall Church, however, to signify Friday as a special day by acts of denial, piety, almsgiving, etc. What better situation could we be in! We are not obligated to do seomthing but are free to do what we wish.

And IMRight tries to minimize the changes, but it was taught before that meat eating was a sin because it was disobedience to the Church. This is a good teaching and still stands. The required action now is not abstinance from meat, it is to be a personal thing. To willfully disobey the Church is still sinful.

Look! Look! He bolded "brother" again. And capitalized it too! Man, that really proves his point!

That would certainly make things easier, but I don't believe it is true. It takes two to tango, Adam and Eve participated in the Sin and (for most folks) it takes a man and a woman to bring about the creation of a new soul.

Relatively speaking, there is very little in the scriptures which is difficult to comprehend once it is translated into one's own language.

I would just amend the statement to add, unless you are a RC. There must be something about Catholic schools or somewhere else in their environment that disrupts the comprehension process. :-)

The Catholic Church will probably be the last to ever allow female priests or deacons (but probably never will). Hmmm ... I guess the CC does know what the bible says afterall, doesn't it? ;o)

Except for Matthew 1;25.
