The Neverending Story (The New Christian Chronicles)
Southern Baptists ending talks with Catholic Church ^ | 3/24/01 | AP

The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Go look back in the 20's and 30's. I've been called more things than that. And not for the type of post you just witnessed from me. I don't generally get that Graphic. But, in anger some of us do things we may not intend. Believe me, I was only trying to make a point - not offend. If I wanted to offend I could have probably come up with far more creative than that post; but, that's not me.

I don't understand name calling at all. I understand labels, which are not always intended as a swipe but many times are regarded as such. One can say another is ignorant . And while merely intending to say they don't know their subject, it can be taken to mean they are a foolish moron. It may not be what was intended; but, that's how it gets read.

Forgiven.
Please understand my response. If someone at my church said something like that I would pull him aside as a brother and have a good talk. It would be understood from the begining that wanted to honor Christ with our language as well as with our bodies, careers, prayer life, etc etc etc. My fear here is that because you may percieve me as an "opponent" or perhaps even and "enemy", I could never reach you on the critical point that you border on sacrilege.

Forget that I am a Catholic and imagine that all I want is to see Christ's life (& death burial & resurection) preached. If you agree with me on that priority... is the level of our dialog aiding the cause of Christ? or hurting it.

If I have offended, I beg forgiveness

BTW - Would you mind if I hold onto your inspired cat dropings story? It's bound to come in useful in the future :o)

Yours in Christ

Amazing the things you see and hear in church when you first come as an outsider. LOL Yes they do speak their own special language, don't they? And they have such expectations for you, even as a visitor. Was that your first time in church ever? (Did you ever go as a child?)

Thanks for the support, Titanites. It's time to lay off, though. He apologized and I think he meant it.

Iowegian in not always eloquent ;-) , but he's right on this one.

Hey, I modeled it on a poptart before the cat came in. If the poptart had the same weight in the argument, I'd have outted with it. And probably been labeled an anti-Catholic poptart basher; but... I merely tried to consider something no one would consider holy on it's face and illiterated it into the things ya'll do with 'holy relics.' Again, with license; but....

I can forgive him for doing it but still not believe he never intended offense.

I know I wouldn't like anyone, especially God, questioning my sincerity when I ask for forgiveness. Would you?

Just think of it as us doing our part for the ancient Christian duty and obligation to proclaim the truth and fight heresy.

Except that that" truth" began with Luther and by the most ancient canons, was heresy.

God has the advantage of knowing your sincerity. I will just assume that it is there until overwhelming evidence supports the opposing view.

Never went as a child, not that I can remember anyway.

Sad to say....when I go to church even now I still feel something of an outsider.

It sounds little different than the world a lot of the time, proffesional this, proffesional that....wall to wall counselers parrotting phsyco-babble with a christian bent to it,everything and anything except the simplicity of the gospel....and I think that is because folks don't understand how it works....and because it doesn't seem to work it is left aside in unbelief....and the world is subconsiously turned to for answers.

The world is the worst cult of all and yet where is the de-programming?

God bless

You see what you want to see. Truth is that the cultural biases of Anglos take even the Way of the Cross, which is certainly centered on Christ,as an offense. Bottom line: you hate it because it is something that Catholics do.

You've got the best "12-step program" alternative around! The Scriptures will solve any such problem.

I may have missed an earlier post. Have you not found a group of like-minded Christians that you can pray & worship with?

If it involves Christians, I think it is our obligation to forgive, regardless of whether or not they are sincere.

That fits your catholisism which doesn't honor the Word much.

because it dares to disagree with what the "Holy Spirit" whispers into your ears?

Sometimes he whispers, but sometimes he has to hit me over the head with a 2X4 to get my attention. But then I listen.

Nope. Cuz it dares to disagree with what the Holy Spirit is shouting in my ears.

Forgiven. Please understand my response. If someone at my church said something like that I would pull him aside as a brother and have a good talk. Very gracious, thank you. I understand sacrelidge pretty much amounts to blasphemy. If I'd felt anything blasphemous had been in the post, it would never have come in here. My object is to use anything - anything at my disposal to make a point to people without going overboard. I work in a very stressful job and spent the day being chased four times around the block on something I opened myself up for in trying to prove another point. I think I made that one too; but, at some expense. I don't regret that expense; but, I underestimated it's ability to get under my skin. It takes an awful mountain of stuff to get me irked. The exceptions to that are two - sin in general, and blasphemy.

Forget that I am a Catholic and imagine that all I want is to see Christ's life (& death burial & resurection) preached. If you agree with me on that priority... is the level of our dialog aiding the cause of Christ? or hurting it.

I don't have to forget you're a Catholic to imagine that. But I can't forget the system you're following and it's beliefs - which is what requires the brick between the eyes arguments at times. Some people just blindly believe things without ever questioning and then feel their entire world threatened if they find the first bit of it false. So they'd rather defend an error to the death - and the detriment of others, than to ever admit it. I've known Catholics all my life. Which is why I have no problem with Catholic people. I have a problem with the beliefs that their clergy feeds them. Most either cannot or will not differentiate between the two things. Differentiation means that you see the other guy as a person rather than an evil they. Refusal to differentiate for those who have an agenda means the ability to throw prejudice claims, vulgarities and any thing else under the sun at the other guy in order to discredit rather than listen to what he has to say. Most do that as a defense mechanism for a number of reasons. I've been at this stuff for a while now. And I know people pretty well.

If I have offended, I beg forgiveness

I don't beg; but, I do know humility. Fortuneately, and with God's help, I got over the things that taught it to me a long time ago.

BTW - Would you mind if I hold onto your inspired cat dropings story? It's bound to come in useful in the future :o)

Is this where I smack you? LOL. As upset as that argument got you, you really want to use it? Just be sure to tell whoever you relay it to that this is what happens when you listen to the cat instead of waiting on God to answer.

by the way, thank you for agreeing with me that your catholisism disagrees with what the Holy Spirit is telling me.
