A recent article in the Jordan Times (Monday, June 17, 2002 AP) sheds lights and startles the reader on the current state of affairs in Egypt, even among the educated elite. I don't doubt any of that, dennis. I am not saying that Said is trustworthy, or that Egyptian intellectuals are either! I am just pointing out to you, because I thought it would useful knowledge for you to have, that Said made some conciliatory comments in the column I linked to. Those comments may be completely discountable, but the fact that he published them has at least some meaning which may turn out to be useful somewhere down the line.

Basically I just wanted you to be aware that he made these remarks about Arafat, elections and the unjustifiability of homicide bombings.
