There must be a difference between practicing your religion and continuing to live a life in the stone age. It amazes me that the Saudi's have no problem buying billions of dollars of our most advanced weapons, yet cannot embrace to their people the advances of the modern world without asking permission. Obviously the rest of us need to be spending more time searching for oil elsewhere.

They stiffed America because they are too busy practicing for the 2002 Winter Olympics.

"... the Wahhabist Saudi government...may have more in common culturally and politically with America's foes in the current fight than it has with America."

Invade Saudi Arabia now! We're already at war with Islam (in spite of W's and Tony's statements to the contrary), and Saudi is THE problem.

"But the truth is that the relationship between the two nations was never that solid to begin with. After all, the Wahhabist Saudi government--certainly the most conservative Islamic government this side of the Taliban--may have more in common culturally and politically with America's foes in the current fight than it has with America. "

CLEARLY ACCURATE, actually the Wahhabist Saudi Government has everything culturally and politically in common with the Islamic war against contemporary Western civilization. Given that the Saudis regularly dismember their own citizens for minor violations of the Koran, their true attitude toward our debauched society cannot be anything less than belligerent.

From the Drudge Report article you mentioned:

General Tommy R. Franks, the commander in charge at the United States Central Command in Florida reported that 'Judge Advocate General, a legal officer', doesn't like this, so we're not going to fire.'

Pres. Bush in his press conference this week, spoke of Vietnam as a war where politicians made decisions instead of military leaders.

Have things really changed?

Of interest.

How reliable would this assessment be, given its source, the writer and his credentials?

One senses the grinding of an axe...

Where in this rather carefully written and composed article, filled with specific items and events, and quotes from mainsteam establishment types, do you sense that in particular? Or is your knee just jerking? Or does the name "Teitelbaum" discommode you?

And in Egypt 20,000 student demonstrators put it even more succinctly: "U.S. go to hell."

And why would we want to go to Egypt?

Have things really changed? Militarily wise? Yes, the Gulf War proved that. Politically..maybe not. We live in a world of appeasement and tied to a global economy.
