Royalty comes from within!!!!
Posted on 10/12/2001 6:53:34 PM PDT by Happygal
Being an Irish person, born, bred, reared and living, I woke up this morning and saw Mayor Rudi handing back a cheque for $10m because some 'prince' gave it with one hand, and took it back (hypothetically speakin') with another. Well, all I can say is...``Royalty comes from within'' On watching what Mayor Rudi (can't spell the last name, sorry, I'm Irish) did, I air punched! And I immediately went to a Red Cross site and donated £20 (Irish punts) to the NYC cause. $10m (spittin'). Yeah, it's a lot of money to those who don't have it (like me). But it's not a lot of money, and it's certainly not enough to sell your soul for. God bless NYC. God bless Mayor Rudi. And Saudi Prince (what~ever~yer~name~is)...it takes proper breeding (and not money) to get you class!!!!!

Well put.

Rudy is the man. I hear there is a big push to make him Time's man of the year. He would be a great CIA director, I hope the rumor is true.

Very true. I can't spell Rudy's last name either.

Well I dunno if he needs any accolade. I think I `air punched' this morning because I finally saw a politician with the balls to hand back money, because ``it wasn't right''. When you live in my country, that's a phenomenon ***S***

Strange how a person's first name defines who they are: Madonna, Rosie, Hillary, RUDY. Sorry to have included Rudy with these obnoxious wrenches, but I was just trying to reinforce my observation

Thank you for your post; Rudy is MY mayor and boy did he make me proud when he did that. I've been arguing here today with some others who thought he had no right to turn down the check, if you can believe it. Thanks also for your donation. We'll make up the shortfall with CLEAN money from people with clean hands, thank you.

I hadn't thought about it much before 9-11, but our relation to the Saudis is really, really degrading. They are the worst kind of despots - the epitome of what our Founding Fathers most abhorred.
I think Giuliani has created a symbol that's going to make that relationship harder - this tough scrapper of a mayor, the grandson of immigrants, from a working class family, who got where he is by his own hard work - turning down 10 million from a Saudi fatcat princeling.
To: Happygal
On Rudi's behalf, thanks. You will see him again.

When you are Irish, and half-dyslexic (particularly post-Guinness)..Rudi is so much easier.

It's possible, but I tend to think that if anything makes that lot feel guilty, it's not dead kaffir, but Wahhabi. They aren't far from the desert, and the only tradition they have says that they should be brutal, clean-living barbarians, instead of living lives of vulgar ostentation and luxury. So they pragmatically diffuse the extremist element in the Arabian Peninsula and at the same time salve their consciences by sending their most crazy clerics all over the world as Wahhabi missionaries.

This was a silly political statement by Mayor Rudy. All the Prince did was donate $10 million to show the Saudi's solidarity with us during this time of crisis. This along with an plea that the U.S. have a more balanaced approach to the Israeli/Palestinian problem. Let's face it, the Saudi royal family has a great deal more to fear from Muslim fundamentalists than the average American. If Saudi Arabia comes under the control of the fundamentalists you'll all be wishing for those good old days when the Prince was offering his money and his advice. When a friend offers his advice that you are doing something wrong, don't turn your back on him...think about what he is saying to you.

Would that be pronounced the `Wha' have I' tribe? ``What have I?' In answer I'd say...`More money than morals'.
