I had to take several multi-cultural courses for teaching certification. Had a well respected Russian Orthodox Priest teach the class. The father was excellent and I have recommended his class to several others. Actually, most of those classes really do strive to foster a more understanding attitude to various cultures other than our own.
We have quite a few natives in Alaska. When they live in an area where there are jobs, (not in some bush village) vast majority are very decent, respectable people. Still natives do not think like say white people. Many cultural differences; some good (sharing, respect for the land, ect) and some bad (rampant alcoholism/drug abuse, child abuse ect). Not uncommon to see sexual child abuse rates of 60-70% in bush villages, as strange as it may seem, it is cultural in nature; been practiced for hundreds of years. Now not all natives are child abusers, but its way off the scale in comparison to whites. It also continues from generation to generation; very prevalent in some families as it is learned and sad to say culturally accepted.
I confronted the father about this aspect of their culture and he became very somber and did not have any good answers; as deep inside he also knew the truth.
The point is we often paint a biased picture of other cultures from either our culture's value system (which is human nature) or to achieve a social/political end (thank you politicians, we elect them and they set the standards) When the latter occurs how does that benefit anyone in America?
So, are you saying that these programs are good, even though they are likely harming our country?
Actually, most of those classes really do strive to foster a more understanding attitude to various cultures other than our own. You have unwittingly stated the scope of the problem. European American culture is not shown in the same favorable light as cultures other than our own, but rather Western culture and Judeo-Christian principles are debunked and degraded. Crap. The only culture we should be concerned about is preserving our American heritage. Yes it is based on immigrants and we have achieved alot in the last 200 odd years. But now the immigrants are freeloaders, and scumbags with no intention what so ever of blending in , learning the language, or mores of society. These urchins have F up'd their own countries and think they can come over here and have "little Pakistan" or "little Afghanistan" etc. BS! If they do not have a employable skill and a genuine interest in our culture F! them. Kick them out. I live in a building in DC full of these miserable fucks. They can't even take their trash down to the trash shoot in a GD 1400/mo apartment complex. They just leave their trash laying all over. Not a one of them speak English unless they want you to here them talk crap about Americans. KICK THEM ALL OUT! NEVER LET THEM IN!! END IMMIGRATION NOW!!!
