Keep chanting that mantra, Veronica. It'll get you through these bad times (which may be getting worse).
Arafat's face tough task cracking down on Islamic militant groups
JERUSALEM, Oct 7 (AFP) - Caught between pressure from the United States and Israel, Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Authority has started cracking down on Islamic militants opposed to a ceasefire, but security officials warned the task was not going to be easy.
Israel's army chief said the string of raids and arrests Saturday was just the start and that Israel expected much more, while Arafat ran into instant criticism from the hardline Islamic group Hamas, which said the detention of one of its bomb-makers was a blow to Palestinian "national unity."
The United States, anxious to cool regional tensions to clear the way for its planned offensive against terror suspects in Afghanistan, has urged both sides to quell the violence, and has frequently told Arafat to do more to stop attacks.
And in case you missed Bush's speech last night, he made it pretty clear Arafat has to toe the line. Heel Arafat!
