I believe we are still making our list. The Saudis have a choice of whether they want to be on it or not.

They are not weak kneed. They are his relatives and they are Wahabbists. They only joined the coalition against Saddam Hussein because they knew they were in immediate danger and need us to protect them.

I think your description of our "allies" the Saudis is far too generous.

Freeze ALL Saudi assets in the West.

They have hundreds of billions in U.S. Stocks, bonds, etc., for instance.

As long as this country is at the mercy of foreign oil this will never change.I would like to personally thank our Congressional Leaders like ToM Daschle for not allowing us to drill for oil in Alaska and off the coasts of our country.Maybe when the Arab States take this country they will drill here and sell it back to us.

This kind of crap is a direct result of the weak-kneed response we have shown so far. It's time for this administration to wake up to the fact that this is a total war. One culture against another and to act accordingly. Think Carthage.

Seriously:

The Saudi Royal family are cowards, it would seem.

However, they KNOW they are highly vulnerable.

Any alternative to them however, in the REAL world, is a FAR Worse disaster!

With friends like the Saudis, ...

Seriously, I think that this is the most difficult issue that the U.S. faces. Our "friends" in the Arab world tend to be narrow, autocratic regimes that are either in cahoots with or intimidated by radical elements within their populations.

Before September 11, we would never have considered confronting these regimes over their anti-Americanism and authoritarian nature. Now, I see more and more willingness to make those issues. We're starting to think of winning these countries over to democracy, which is how we won the Cold War.
