It would be good if Americans would pay attention to the use of the term "overseas Chinese" (appears in many news stories including the one you linked to). Whereas Germans accept that the folks who came here from Germany are now Americans, the Chinese still lay claim to all their people who go abroad. This is immigration along the lines of the Ancient Greek model -- starting new city-states everywhere (read: Chinatowns) while pushing the frontiers of the mother culture forward into the lands of the barbarians.

We need to get a real good idea of how many Chinese immigrants will side with us when the Sino-US War comes. And we need to pay greater attention in encouraging assimilation - businessmen ought to be, well, spoken to when they hang out signs saying crap like "Support Beijing's Olympic Bid!" They must be made to choose whether they are Chinese or American. If we encourage assimilation then these Chinese will be an outstanding resource when the war breaks out, giving us many people to do intel analysis work and work behind the enemy's lines. If they do not assimilate, they will be playing the same role for the Communists.
