I get frustrated with the press corps. We could be getting more useful information out of the White House if the press corps would formulate some meaningful questions, and not ask the same stupid questions for 15 minutes. They think that if they ask the same question, but in different words that Ari will get confused and accidentally tell them something classified. Miss Marple had a great suggestion the other day. Let 5 FReepers take the place of the whole press corps at the White House. We'd do a much better job.

I am proud he gave them that tongue lashing also. They need to be told this is not the Clinton "feel good" administration.
The press are so egotistical and so stupid that they cannot think beyond what they want. Any that had any sense would realize that among their readers are enemies. Do they feel a need to protect their troops and their fellow Americans? No - all they see is their competitive need to be the first to get something on the air. As if we care who gets something on the air first.
Just ask them if we trust our President or do we trust the press? I can tell you we trust the President. For one thing, he is the only one that seems to give a flip about the safety of our troops and us.

Fascinating. Wonder how many times this White House has gotten "papers of record" to sue small web sites for posting articles available in any university library? ;-)

Actually, we can be at war without a formal declaration from Congress remember? We have done it many times. Congress did pass some limited thing, but not an official declaration.
The smirky reporter here is longing for the days of Clinton where National Security meant nothing as long as the talking points were repeated over and over by the media. This President is a leader, not Elvis, and he does give a darn about not endangering our military and our citizens!

I have written Newsweek editors about this writer and this article. Shameful attitude. Shows she does not have the intelligence to be a reporter. She has the spoiled kid complex and only her wants are important.

And didn't you enjoy her agony over wearing or not wearing an American flag in her lapel? I'm like, Martha, you are a print reporter. No one will see the flag in your lapel on TV, so you are safe.
To: Utah Girl
Sure did enjoy it. She should not BE ALLOWED to wear the flag. She has no comprehension of what the flag is - she thinks it is membership in a club.

"A formal declaration of war by us is political more than it is a reflection of reality." A formal declaration of war enables certain measures. Lacking a formal declaration of war, there is less--or no--authority to pursue those measures. Also, the initial attacks on the WTC are currently "crimes"; under formal war, they would be "acts of war".
If you think these distinctions are political rather than real, you need to do some research and think about the implications. They are a matter of law--and of the Constitution--which, I suppose one could define as "politics" if one did not take either very seriously.

I LOVE that one. How about Halsey: "I have come to admit that there are good Japs. When they have been dead for more than a year, they all become good Japs."
To: ScholarWarrior
Halsey knew some things didn't he? Like "Hard...Fast...Often."
