Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |

The Neverending Story (The Christian Chronicles) -- Thread 160
What if I believe that God worked through men to accomplish what he did. Much like all of salvation history. Should I not be curious about how God has worked in the past?
Do you trust what Gods says, as you want your daughter to trust what you say. God says he will send the Holy Spirit to teach us all things, and no man need teach us. 1 John 2:27.
Then what was that business about sending the apostles out to teach all the nations? Unnecessary?

Someone had to drop off the Books. Maybe FedEx can now replace missionaries.
I never claimed an anti-reason approach. I claimes that when I searched the scriptures for myself, that it was there that I found the reason to believe whole heartedly. When I said I believed when I was taking man's word for it I was just giving lip=servise to it.
IMO skeptics would look at you believers and be more skeptical after reading some tof the questions that you want answered. Even if you claim you "already know the answer," I think you whould almost have to be an un=believer to think up such questions. I have truly been shocked by some of the questions asked, and as I said it showed me a whole new thought process I never thought of before, and I believe someone weak in faith might have trouble with them. That is why I feel beleivers have no business opening up those cans of worms!!!

Wouldn't a foolish question be something you already know the answer too. Wouldn't answering a foolish question give it credit.
BELIEVERS SHOULD NOT BE ASKING OR ANSWERING THE TYPE OF QUESTIONS THIS THREAD HAS DEGENERATED DOWN TO.

A believer should fear no question, challenge, or any other "can or worms.
So then, you are positing the theory that Original Sin leads to bad spelling?

The subject of the canonization of the bible has been nit-picked to death. At some point you have to have faith if you are a believer, that God controls his word, not man becasue He said he did.

Quit trying to get rid of Soothing Dave and Allend. If they can't engage in the above aforementioned practice there would be nothing left but a magic sternum. :-)
Just because I know the answer to something doesn't mean that I know the answer someone else will give. It's called sharing our thoughts.
And there are also rhetorical questions, and questions used to move the subjects along, and to foster participation. Yes, it can be complicated.
BELIEVERS SHOULD NOT BE ASKING OR ANSWERING THE TYPE OF QUESTIONS THIS THREAD HAS DEGENERATED DOWN TO.
What type of questions are you talking about? Give me an example. Is this one of them?

But I'm glad you're still here cuz that was funny.
Actually He is trying to get US to forget it.

The Bible tells me that Jesus is God. The same to you and your husband. But not all believe that. Havoc was hesitant to answer my question directly and JHavard expressed that he had no strong convictions one way or another.
When will you see that what you read as "The Bible" is not what everyone else reads?
When will you see that talking about what the Bible says to us is the only thing we can hope to do?
But then you said some remark that caused me to jump in the discussion, about thinking people as yourself, unlike Havoc, ..., I truly can't remember the whole thing, but you were beating a dead horse.
I said that I don't include Havoc in the class of people who think like me. And I don't. And I don't thikn he includes me in the class of people who think like him. We think differently and whenwe read the Bible we come up with different ideas.
I wasn't saying he didn't think, and that only I think. I was questioning why he didn't answer in a simple "yes" or "no."
God answered the question very simply. Jesus is God. Jesus is Man. Why does God have to go any farther. Where is faith if you need more then God's Word.
This is your reading. Don't foget vmatt, who very clearly saw the Bible saying Jesus was a second God. Now shoudl I have questioned him? What he thought "God's Word" was saying?
