New oil finds in Eastern Desert

Egypt, Economics, 10/9/2001

New oil finds have been made, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) announced yesterday.

The first of the two finds is in Eastern Rabeh region, west of the coastal city of Hurghada. It is the first discovery in a Canadian concession area. The new find has a reserve amounting to 33 million barrels, with an expected output ceiling of 3.300 barrels per day.

The 5,976 foot-deep well would begin production soon.

The second off-shore find is located in the US "Ocean" concession area. It holds a reserve of 60 million barrels and a daily output estimated to hit 8,000 barrels, the EGPC statement said.

ME Oil Still flows Normally Into World Markets

Regional, Economics, 10/9/2001

Well-informed sources in oil industry said that oil exports from the Middle East flow naturally to the world markets today following the beginning of the air strikes led by the US against Afghanistan.

News reports said that work continues as usual and that Gulf oil producers export almost 15 million barrels of oil, which represent almost 44% of the oil supplies.

Meantime, an Iranian oil source said that the Iranian oil exports were not affected and that the situation is good in all parts of the region.

Similarly, an Iraqi oil source said that the operations of shipping the light al-Basra crude oil from al-Baker port on the Arab Gulf Sea started to return back to ordinary level at almost one million barrels every day.

Worthy mentioning that the Iraqi oil exports receded almost to the half by the end of September for reasons especially the sharp increase in the insurance installment against the risks of war.
