How is it that you can't understand that in assuming flesh , God lowered himself? In art the angel is shown on bended knee before the Virgin, even though he was the messenger of God.This is the paradox of the Incarnation: that God becomes man.

That is true he is Robby,I had never really thought about that before..is there a scripitual basis for that or do you think that it was artistic license?

Did Woody address the humanity of Jesus? He had to have a human, not a divine mom..she had to bring to the conception the human being.

Did you know that according to Jewish tradition sin is passed from the father to the child, the mother does not pass the sin. That is why it is call the sin of Adam..because it comes through the man,not the woman.

Jesus did not need a "sinless " mother..He had a Perfect ,Holy and sinless Father..thus He was born human, but spiritually Holy,Perfect and without sin.....the spotless lamb

Mary just the vessel,nothing more

Matthew 12

47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

More than tradition; taught by God. Doc covered this very well several months ago.

Mary just the vessel,nothing more

Blessed to be sure:

And it came to pass, as He spoke these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice and said unto Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore Thee and the breasts which Thou hast sucked." But He said, "Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the Word of God and keep it."
The message: keep it in perspective!

Very interesting post, thank you. I don't think I'll see the conversion of Islam in my lifetime. If Islam means "peace", (I think it actually comes from the Arabic word, "to submit")then let us not forget that they swept through North Africa and into Europe in the Middle Ages killing Christians and forcibly converting them. One only has to read the Koran and read the life of Mohammed to see that it is not a peaceful religion contrasted to the word and life of Christ (sadly not always followed because it is a much harder path for us humans).

I was wondering when Semarimis....Queen of Babylon..Queen of Heaven...so called the virgin Mary..all the same, would be pulled into this. Watch the Vatican guys, I keep warning you, every war has been a holy war. Not all who claim Christianity are christians, and it has given true believers a bad name. A holy war does not mean deeds done by christians. It means a war in the name of religion. As a believer I avoid religions like the plague. RELIGION AND POLITICS crucified the Son of God.

Here is a link to a page on Catholicity.org: The Chaplet of Divine Mercy Part of the Chaplet includes these worlds: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion: have mercy on us and on the whole world.

PLEASE do not say day 5 of your novena..many of us do not want to or ever plan to return..pray for something or someone else!

Fifth Day

Today bring to Me THE SOULS OF THOSE WHO HAVE SEPARATED THEMSELVES FROM MY CHURCH

Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, You do not refuse light to those who seek it of You. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Church. Draw them by Your light into the unity of the Church, and do not let them escape from the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it about that they, too, come to glorify the generosity of Your mercy.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Son's Church, who have squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by obstinately persisting in their errors. Do not look upon their errors, but upon the love of Your own Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their sake, since they, too, are enclosed in His Most Compassionate Heart. Bring it about that they also may glorify Your great mercy for endless ages. Amen.

Mary just the vessel, nothing more The nativity stories make her a real personality, unlike Joseph, for instance. Luke especially presents her as the perfect Christian. So she received him, so we should receive him .

only those meant to believe will actually believe Which means what? If Calvinist, such an approach is that the Elect are never be sure that they are not deceived, or self-elected rather than by God. If you simply mean that God chooses those who are saved, then this is a truism.

Thanks for the post. After all the discussion only one thing remains - Jesus was the Son of God and Mary was His mother.

Mary was the mother of God. Jesus listened to His mother at Cana and Jesus made her the mother of us all from the cross. That's good enough for me to ask her to ask Jesus.

Oh my most holy father, full of grace and high brow intellectual prolixity... name for me anywhere in the Christian Bible where Mary is said to have paid the sacrifice for our sins and has been resurrected form the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father. That is, is it not, the Gospel? And whoever believes shall not perish but have everlasting life. Granted, Mary holds a position of great honor, but she plays no role in the salvation of a soul.

Wana' buy an amulet? They're really cheep...

No, I prefer the New American Bible (Catholic). It's a more accurate translation. The KJV is notorious for it's typos for crying out load.

She was a special lady,no question.Scripture does show us more of her,no question.but I dont think I would use the word "perfect".She was humble and submissive. She was a great role model.

But Jesus said it best..any of us that do his will, that follow him have the same position that she did.."Who is my brother ,or my sister,or my mother?..."

BTW Two years ago I spent alot of time meditating on Joseph. What an awesome man of God.

Which means what? If Calvinist, such an approach is that the Elect are never be sure that they are not deceived, or self-elected rather than by God. If you simply mean that God chooses those who are saved, then this is a truism.

Which means that only those who are Born of God will actually believe with saving faith:

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and every one that loveth Him that begot, loveth Him also that is begotten by Him.
The tense of the verse is very clear. Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is [past tense] born of God. Everybody that believes has already been born of God. Unless this Spiritual event takes place, their is no possible way that a person can even see the Kingdom of God:
Jesus answered and said unto him, "Verily, verily I say unto thee, unless a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
Unless this Spiritual even takes place, their is no possible way that a person can even understand spirutual things:
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
I'm not sure what you mean with the Calvinist remark about being elect and not deceived, but the scripture is clear that there is no such thing as self-election. If you are asking if I am sure that I am not decieved, then that I can answer.

You can't ask Mary ,she is dead. Christ is the only one who has ascended to the Father. He rose from the dead, God is a living God. Where in scripture does it say Mary did not die just like every other mortal human, where does it say you have to pray to her to talk to Jesus? And scripture specifically says we are NOT to pray to the dead. You are practicing witchcraft when you try to contact dead people, because its not dead people your getting, its demons! sigh..no wonder this country is under judgement. Its very frustrating..no one reads their bible..quote..."There is a way that seems right unto man, but leads to destruction."

If I understand the scripture you are running away with, I can say no:

When Jesus therefore saw His mother and the disciple standing by whom He loved, He said unto His mother, "Woman, behold thy son!" Then said He to the disciple, "Behold thy mother!" And from that hour, that disciple took her unto his own home.
If you are looking to Mary for salvation, then you will be shocked when you die. And some of your Roman brethren were saying that Mary is not worshipped.

Did I guess the scripture correctly?
