She thinks it is an accomplishment if in the 1990s people need two years of college to know as much as they should know by the end of high school.

That was also my thought.

I found her bias so blatent it was worthy of posting..She had to get Iran contra in Reagans assessment

Notice also Helen Thomas' paean to Jimmy Carter: "he certainly had several foreign policy achievements." Somehow Iran slips her mind. The only possible achievement is Camp David, and it is debatable whether that made a genuine peace settlement involving Israel and all her neighbors easier or harder to reach. The Helsinki Agreement under Ford arguably did more in the long run for human rights than Carter's grandstanding on the issue.

Helen Thomas thinks Jimmy Carter is the best former President of modern times. If she means the 20th century, I would put Taft's and Hoover's contributions as former Presidents above Carter's--Taft was Chief Justice of the United States for 8 years. If she means all Presidents in her own lifetime, then I would also rank John Quincy Adams (17 years in the House of Representatives) above Carter.

Speaking of Ronald Reagan, on October 11 he ties John Adams' longevity mark, and on October 12 he will set a new record for longevity on the part of an American President.
